The Academy

The Business and Finance Academy operates based on the school within a school concept. Students are required to take all courses to meet graduation requirements. In addition, students are required to take Accounting Principles and Personal Finance as required academy electives. Students must also choose a minimum of two of the following electives: · Advanced Business Technology· Banking and Finance· Entrepreneurship· Cooperative EducationStudents will be allowed to take other electives with the regular school population i.e. band, chorus, drama, dance, piano, art, JROTC, psychology, current events, fashion design, food & nutrition, foreign language, and African American Literature

 GradingThe Academy will follow the same grading system as the regular population. However, once students fall below a 2.25 GPA they will be reviewed for possible transitioning back into the regular population.

 BehaviorStudents are expected to maintain excellent behavior . Students with unacceptable behavior will be reviewed for possible transitioning back into the regular population.

AttendanceStudents are required to be on time for school. Four tardies equals one absence. Students are allowed four excused absences per semester with written consent from a parent or guardian. Students are allowed four unexcused absences per semester.

FeesThere is a $10.00 registration fee for all Business & Finance Academy students.

DiplomaTypes

Advanced Diploma with Honors: 30 units of credit in grades 9 – 12 and in certain courses in grade 8, as required by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners, including 20 ½ units of specifically required credit.

Diploma with Advanced Academic Endorsement: 28 units of credit in grades 9 – 12 and in certain courses in grade 8, as required by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners, including 20 ½ units of specifically required credit.

Diploma with Advanced Career/Technical Endorsement: 28 units of credit in grades 9 – 12 and in certain courses in grade 8, as required by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners, including 21 ½ units of specifically required credit.

Regular Diploma: 28 units of credit in grades 9 – 12 and in certain courses in grade 8, as required by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners, including 18 ½ units of specifically required credit.

Alabama Occupational Diploma: Effective for students with disabilities as defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA): 24 units of credit in grades 9 – 12 and in certain courses in grade 8, as required by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners.

Discipline Policy

The Mobile County Public School System Discipline Policy will be enforced. The administrative team at Williamson High School will make effective use of ASSERTIVE DISCIPLINE.

Attendance Policy

Students are required to be on time for school. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to make sure that their children arrive on time each day. On block scheduling, an absence equals 1.5 days of missed classroom instruction. A student is allowed 4 excused and 4 unexcused absences per term. Any absence that exceeds the above requirement will require a doctor’s note. (Summary taken from approved school system attendance policy).

Progress Reports

In an effort to effectively communicate student progress with parents, progress reports are given every two weeks. Students and parents may also check progress through STI Home.

Tutorin g

WHS offers for High Hopes Tutoring after school (contact Mrs. Bell-Bush) Also, individual teachers offer specific tutoring after school for their academic class.
