Installation

Note

We strongly recommend that a qualified elec-trical contractor install this unit.

The ease and simplicity of installing theLighthouse makes it the pedestal of choice formany electricians. The design allows all workto be completed out in the open with noconfining workspaces.

Securing the Base and Mounting thePedestal

Always use stainless steel hardware and astainless steel washer between the bolt headand the mounting feet.

See the attached dimensional drawing of thebase of the Lighthouse. Suggested locationsfor the power supply as well as water, phoneand cable TV utilities are identified. Werecommend that you prepare the mounting ofthe base as follows:

(Refer to mounting base diagram)

• On Concrete Docks

At each corner, utilize four 3/8" compres-sion bolts or threaded rod set in theconcrete on 11.75" centers for through-hole mounting of the Lighthouse base.

• On Wood Docks

At each corner, utilize four 3/8" bolts or lagscrews on 11.75" center for through-holemounting of the Lighthouse base. Alwaysuse stainless bolts and washers to preventdamage while mounting the base.

• On Both Concrete and Wood Docks

The mounting surface must be flat and

level. If cupped deck boards or an irreg-ular concrete surface are under the basemount feet, stainless washers should beused to shim the base level before thetightening the mounting bolts or screws.

Connecting Power Supply to thePedestal Buss Bars

Remove the four corner screws (10" from thebottom of the pedestal) that attach the tophousing of the pedestal to the base.

There is an integral plastic hook hinge on one side and with the screws removed, youcan hinge the top section open and fold itgently down to the deck. This will expose theloop feed 3/8" compression style stud lugbuss bars.

An electrician will need to crimp wire termi-nations on power supply lines and attach theleads as directed by the wiring diagraminstructions located within this packet.

A silicone bronze flat washer, Bellville washer(cupped spring) and a nut are provided foreach incoming supply line.

After conductors are terminated fill all voidsat conductor entrance and exit points at basewith foaming silicone sealant.

Water Connection

There are four access panels located on eachside of the base. The water assembly ismounted on one specialized panel with two1⁄4 turn ball valves.

Remove the water panel to access the back-side of the "T" fitting (3/4" female fitting) forconnection. We recommend attaching a flex-ible stainless or black-poly hose from yourwaterline.

Pull the hose out from under the base andconnect it to the back of the "T".

Guide the hose bask into the base and rein-stall the panel.

Phone, Internet, and Cable TV Connection

The phone, Internet, and cable TV receptaclesare mounted on another specialized baseaccess panel. Connection is similar toworking on the water assembly above.

Remove the access panel.

Pull the phone line and cable out from underthe base and connect them to the back side ofthe receptacles.

Guide the wires back into the base and rein-stall the panel.

Installing the 13-Watt Compact Fluorescent Light

Replace the bulb about every three years, or ifthe bulb fails to illuminate by unscrewing thelens and top assumedly from the mainhousing with a Phillips head screwdriver.Once the top is removed, clean as necessaryand replace bulb with the recommendedcompact florescent.

Maintenance

Eaton - Marina Power and Lighting producesunits that are designed to withstand the harshmarine environment. Very little maintenance isrequired to keep the units looking new formany years and to keep the warranty effective.

Exterior Maintenance

To remove of dirt, grime, and bird droppings, use a mild solution of dishwashing detergentat approximately one teaspoon per gallon ofwarm water. Once clean, follow up with awater based insect spray to kill the spiders

around the base and main housing of the unit.

DO NOT use a petroleum based insect spray.

DO NOT use any solvent or corrosioninhibiting products on any part of the unit. This can cause serious stress cracking of theengineered resins and will void warranty.

Interior Maintenance

Before attempting the following maintenanceprocedures, turn off the power to the unit atthe power supply panel.

Note

The breakers on the unit DO NOT turn the unitpower supply off and the buss bars will beenergized.

• Exposing the Buss Bar Assembly

Annually, the four screws holding the topof the unit to the base should be removedand the unit should be tilted over toexpose the buss bar area.

• Maintenance of Buss Bar Assembly

On all units, the buss bars should be visu-ally examined for excessive heating. Ifpotentially faulty or loose joints are found, they should be tightened or replaced.

In the cases where mechanical lugsinstead of the stud-lug buss assembly areused, it is very important that they beexamined closely. Most mechanical lugsare made of aluminum and are verysusceptible to galvanic corrosion.

If the set screw cannot be tightened, replace the lug. If there appears to becorrosion around the copper to aluminumconnection, remove the copper wire andclean the wire, coat the wire with an anti-
