This brief ceremony begins with music at 5:30 followed by the reading of names in memory of loved ones and culminating with the lighting of the tree. Light up a Life is an evening of remembrance and an opportunity to honor those who have made an impact on our lives. Each name is in memory or a tribute to a special individual. You may add the names of your loved ones by making a donation in their honor. These contributions ensure the continuation of the services Madrone Hospice offers. Individuals who donate $50 or more will receive a special holiday ornament (photo to left) in recognition of your support and as a remembrance of your loved one. LIGHT UP A LIFE

Please join our staff and volunteers as we celebrate “Light up a Life” on Friday, December 7th at 5:30 pm in front of the Fire Hall on Miner Street in Yreka.

Hospice Sabbath

A big thank you goes out to all the local churches that participated in Hospice Sabbath on November 10th and 11th. We greatly appreciate the support from your congregations and look forward to sharing with you again next year!

We have made some changes… The Administrative Office Personnel have returned to the main Madrone Hospice Office on

Collier Circle! We will be keeping all phone numbers in tact and the mailing address will remain the same. We are excited about this transition and hope you all will be too!

In the end, its not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years that matters.

Madrone Senior Services Dinner & Dance

We would like to thank everyone who attended and who helped to make this event happen. The Siskiyou Big Band was fantastic as were all the volunteers who helped with cooking and serving. It is wonderful people like you who make Madrone Hospice and Madrone Senior Services what they are!

Keep your eyes and ears open! Rumor has it we may be hosting a Senior Prom in the spring!

Notes from Terrie Berentsen, Executive Director Attitude of Gratitude

As 2012 draws to a close and we take time to reflect, we here at Madrone Hospice are so very thankful to all of you who have allowed us to provide you services and those who have partnered in our success. With your help and support we have been able to continue to provide and offer services to more people in more communities county wide.

As I look out onto our memorial gardens, I see it as a physical representation of how all our programs have grown and matured over the years as our gardens have.

With 45 employees and five different programs including Hospice, Hospice House, Senior Nutrition Program, Caregiver Support Programs and the Shops, I am very honored and proud of all our Madrone “teams.” They have continued to blossom, flourish and provide outstanding quality compassionate care; always with an Attitude of Gratitude.

From January 2012 to date, our teams have touched the lives of 287 hospice patients and families receiving hospice care, 97 patients who called Hospice House “home” and the 1,000th patient served this year, 22,490 meals served to seniors, and 35 individuals receiving support through our Palliative Care Program.

While it may be easy to measure our accomplishments in numbers, the difference our staff and volunteers make in people’s lives is immeasurable.

While we reflect it is important to honor and recognize all those who help to make it possible for us to continue to serve our community. We are very thankful to the hospice patients and families for welcoming us into your homes, caring physicians for making referrals and supporting our staff, seniors for allowing us to provide a warm, nutritious meal, and for our partners in care including; Fairchild Medical Center, Residential Care Facilities, throughout the county and our DME and pharmacy providers.

And a very special recognition of all our donors and volunteers for ensuring we have the opportunity to continue to provide very special care in the years to come.

Happy Holidays to one and all!

Garden Party

We would like to thank everyone who attended the Garden Party in September and especially thank those who helped make it happen! It was a wonderful event with wonderful music, appetizers, deserts and refreshments. We are especially grateful to the Siskiyou

Opportunity Center for the picnic table we were able to raffle off to benefit Madrone Senior Services.

Thank you to the Huff Family and Miner Street Spirit Station!

On November 16th, Koda, who is only 7 years old, with the help of his family, Miner Street Spirit Station and Yreka Transfer helped to raise money for Madrone Hospice by collecting cans. We greatly appreciate all of the community support we receive, but this kid is exceptional! With his generosity and determination he will surely go far in life!
