The last few months have been challenging for us all, and although it is wonderful to see restrictions beginning to be lifted, we are mindful that it will be a long time before life gets back to the way things used to be.

I am very proud of the way in which every person in our community has helped protect each other and how we have pulled together in each and every one of our villages. Our musicians have sat on their balconies playing to neighbours to keep their spirits high. Our village social committees have organised buddy systems ensuring that everyone has a friendly voice checking in on them. Our Village Managers have delivered Easter Eggs, Anzac Day candles and organised Mother’s Day raffles to help celebrate those special moments in a new way.

Over the past few weeks our villages have been a hive of activity. We are very excited to have launched our new Virtual Clubhouse where homeowners can learn a new hobby, join an online exercise class with our Exercise Physiologist, read an e-book or practice meditation. The clubhouse is a great resource that is available to our homeowners and showcases how NLV is leading the way in connecting lifestyle communities.

We have also launched a range of virtual tours, so you can look around our villages from the comfort of your couch. You can take a 360 degree tour of our amazing clubhouses, swimming pools, bowling greens and gyms. Our helpful salespeople are more than happy to take you on a personal virtual tour answering any of your questions along the way. It’s a great way to get to know our villages and our team without having to leave your own home.

At a time when many companies have had to stop building work, we are moving full steam ahead, laying the clubhouse slab at The Vantage at Vasse, installing new display homes at Tuart Lakes, building homes at Affinity Sheep Station Creek and planning a completely new greenfield site on the Fraser Coast. Our secure financial structure means we have not only been able to continue building but enhance our development plans, creating the next level of resort-like facilities to support our communities over the coming years.

The one thing this period has shown us is that at the end of the day people choose to live in our villages not just for the facilities and affordable homes, but for the people who live here and the wonderful community spirit that is so abundant. We hope you too will join us soon.

Sales enquiries at Vibe Baldivis have been positive and consistent. The sentiment of these enquiries is that these enquiring have had the time to consider their options and are ready make a move. Everyone we have shown around the village has been very impressed. We will have a couple of new homeowners joining us very soon.

And everyone is loving our surprise birthday celebrations, especially the birthday boy or girl who love getting made a fuss of. Read more on this fun initiative in the “Life in the Village” section.

As we move into winter, we are looking forward to organising more events such as a shared soup lunch. It will be lovely to sit together again! SALES OFFICE Update

Life at Vibe Baldivis has been quite eventful during this period of isolation for the Serenitas Management Team. Not only have we been busy looking out for our homeowners, we have contributed to village celebrations for Easter and Mother’s Day and taking some time to remember the fallen for Anzac Day.

The feedback received for our Easter Egg delivery was outstanding, but to be honest, we had loads of fun wearing our bunny ears and zooming around in our buggy delivering delicious chocolate Easter eggs.

ANZAC Day was beautifully commemorated with majority of our streets lined with candles shining as dawn broke. While it was very different to previous years, we still played the last post and our lone Veteran raised our flag. Wreathes were laid by a few members of the community that have previously served. It was quite emotional but very special to be a part of.

Despite isolation, the mood in the village has been fabulous. The Vibe team is a bit biased, but we think that we work in the best community. Everyone is doing their bit to make it work during these tough times. There is lots of positivity and we have all learned new ways to communicate with each other in the village plus our family and friends.

As we move into winter, I hope with a bit of luck, social distancing restrictions can be relaxed further, and our social calendar can become busy again. I know we are looking forward to getting back together again with our social club events.

One last thing, I have to say, just quietly, we’re really enjoying the smells of the beautiful winter cooking that our homeowners tease us with everyday whilst we are getting around the Village.

I immigrated to Australia from the United States in 1966, worked in the IT industry as a Computer Service Engineer in Canberra and then Perth until my retirement in 1999. Eventually the 4 x 2 family home in Duncraig was no longer relevant to our lifestyle, my ex-wife and myself were both looking to downsize into separate houses. After exploring numerous options, NLV was the best fit for both of us, we sold the family home, which freed up enough Capital for her to buy in Lake Joondalup Lifestyle Village, and me in Vibe Baldivis Lifestyle Village.

After more than 50 years living in Australia, and the magic of the internet, I became reacquainted with my High School Sweetheart, Sherry, who lives in the USA with her family and friends.

Since getting reacquainted 8 years ago,

Sherry and I have been sharing our time

between here and the USA, where she

has a home in a village similar to Vibe.

We’ve found the environment in the

village to be quiet and stress free. The

‘inmates’ and staff are all friendly, with

good community facilities, plenty of

social activities to participate in if you

wish, a small, low maintenance garden,

a low maintenance home, and one of

the ‘biggies’ is the security aspect. We

can ‘lock and leave’, whether for a few

days or weeks away in the Caravan,

or our trips to the USA, secure in the

knowledge our home is safe while we’re

away. We’ve been in Vibe for over 6

years and have no regrets about the

decision to live here.

The team at Vibe Baldivis have begun doing a Birthday drive-by for our homeowners celebrating a birthday during isolation. Surprising them with balloons, a yummy cake, lovely birthday card and singing “Happy Birthday” from across the road. A Happy Birthday sign is also left in their garden for the day.

What a great way to spread a little birthday joy to those at home alone.

Self-isolation has been keeping many of us apart from our loved ones.

So, this Mother’s Day the Serenitas Village Management Team wanted to do something a little special for our homeownerss. Trees in the village were decorated and Mother’s Day cards were distributed to all. Plus, a special mum won a gourmet gift hamper from our raffle draw.

The community spirit is quite positive in the Baldivis Community during these uncertain times. A local supermarket chain through volunteer groups, Red Cross and Secondbite, are kindly donating loaves of fresh bread to homeowners. The team then deliver the fresh bread every Wednesday.

Ingredients

1 tbs extra virgin olive oil, plus extra to drizzle

1kg chicken marylands

3 garlic cloves, crushed, plus 1 small garlic clove, finely chopped

1 onion, thinly sliced

1 fennel, thinly sliced, fronds reserved (substitute dill if no fronds available)

1 cinnamon quill

1 cup (220g) arborio rice

4 thyme sprigs

2.5L gluten-free chicken stock

Finely grated zest and juice of 1/2 a lemon

1/2 cup (70g) pecans, roasted, finely chopped

Method

1. Heat oil in large saucepan over high heat. Add chicken and cook, turning halfway, for 6 minutes or until golden. Transfer to a plate. Reduce heat

to medium-high and add crushed garlic, onion and fennel. Cook for 15 minutes or until starting to caramelise.

2. Return chicken and any resting juices to fennel mixture with cinnamon, rice, thyme and stock. Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low and cook for 2 hours or until rice has broken down. Discard cinnamon and any visible thyme stalks.

3. Transfer chicken to a chopping board and carefully shred meat from bones, discarding bones and skin. Return meat to soup (add extra hot stock or water, 1/4 cup [60ml] at a time, if you like, to reach desired consistency) and stir through lemon juice.

4. Combine extra garlic, reserved fennel fronds, lemon zest and pecans in a bowl.

5. Divide soup among serving bowls. Scatter with pecan mixture and drizzle with extra oil to serve.
