What is your background? In my previous role I was a regional account managerfor a natural hair care range in Sydney, Australia.Whilst over seeing the management of 150 accounts,I was allowed a huge creative input working closelywith the marketing department, arranging editorialfeatures with the likes of Vogue and GQ Australia.

You have lived in Sydney and London yet you findLiverpool the most fashionable place- why?Australia is not known for being a fashion forwardcountry and although they have some great designerslike Wayne Cooper and my personal favourite, BrentWilson, I found it to be quite behind the currenttrends that where filtering through the high streets inthe UK. I decided to go back in time and discoveredthe vintage district of Surry Hills where I purchasedsome of the best vintage pieces I own.My mostrecent vintage piece was from Raiders Vintage, acharcoal grey crusader bag from the 70's at a greatprice of 30. Raiders Vintage will also be showcasingat Liverpool Fashion Week.

What makes you suitable to be the LiverpoolFashionWeek co-ordinator?Fashion is a big part of who I am but essentially I amalso a very business minded person with corporateexperience in account and project management.Through working in the advertising sales departmentof Lifestyle Monthly magazine, I have been allowedto have creative input and act as an art director withprevious editorial features. This gave me the

opportunity to show the editor my visual creativitywhich later came with an invitation for me tocoordinate this fashion event that she started in 2009.

What does your role involve? The first thing I do is research potential participators, boutiques, designers, high street retailers, luxurybrands. I then make selections based on the quality oftheir collections and present the client with an eventsschedule. Once the catwalk shows are booked, it's thena labour of love for me as I collaborate with the buyersand designers and let the creative juices flow designinghair and make-up, lighting, music and the modelcasting.

What are youmost excited about for LiverpoolFashionWeek?I find the magnitude of this event very exciting, thecelebrities, the venue, the massive retailers such as JohnLewis, Next and Gap. A particular highlight for me isthe boudoir style, fashion fair that will featurebeautiful trinkets and gems from the likes of Hopeand Winkle and bespoke pieces from PassionJewellery.Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa are one of thesponsors in this years event, so aswell as the catwalkshows, have a drink, browse the stores and pamperyourself with beauty products all under one roof.

How iconic is Liverpool as a fashionable city?Liverpudlians dress to impress and like to stand outfrom the crowd. The Style Clinic Boutique owners,Amanda and Esther understand the importance of thisand bring unique, innovative brands such asSupertrash into there boutique alongside beautifulevening gowns by Anoushka G Couture. The'Liverpool Girl' will wear a bold print, appreciate aluxury fabric and finish the look with killer heels. Youcan find the Style Clinic's winter collection atLiverpool Fashion Week.

What do you want to achieve?Bringing the fashion to life and to create stunningvisuals for the audience and the national pressattending, such as OK! Magazine.

What is the best thing about your job?The social aspect is fun and glamorous, attendingopening nights, launches, luncheons, sports events, concerts and cocktail parties. Last week I was invitedto a press launch in Milan and this week I am havinglunch with Vivienne Westwoods people. The part Ihave most enjoyed is creating a great workingrelationship with our wonderful editor, Amanda Moss. Her passion for the city and dedication is whyLifestyle Monthly magazine is such a success.

What defines fashion? To me fashion is escapism and expression; it is aboutcreating the character you play in life. Attending animportant business meeting? Rock a power bag, tailored blazer and a statement accessory to raise yourconfidence. You don't have to be on holiday in theSouth of France to wear stripes, chinos and brogues.Live the life you have always imagined, wear yourclothes with style and confidence.

Find inspiration for your winter wardrobe at LiverpoolFashion week, organised by Lifestyle MonthlyMagazine, October 19th October 23rd 2010.To book acatwalk show, a stand or buy tickets please visit:www.lifestylemonthly.co.uk

    Thornton Hall

What does owning Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa mean to you?

Thornton Hall is a family business and I am very proud to havebeen running it on behalf of the family for the last six years asManaging Director and now as Chairman.

Tell us a bit about the original building?

It was originally built in the mid-1800s and was once the homeof wealthy shipping merchants the Bamford Brothers. It stillretains many of its original features including the oak carvingson the staircase and the ornate leather and mother of pearlembossed ceiling, in what is now our Lawns Restaurant.

What does acquiring the 4* mean to you?

Being 4 AA Star is recognition of how far we have come and areward for the high standards that we have achieved inproviding a more attentive and a more personalised service atthe right price.

Weddings are popular, what can you offer that no-one else does?

We offer a number of things, one is flexibility we prideourselves on being able to give our brides and grooms exactlywhat they want and not what we think they want, by offeringa range of bespoke packages to suit all couples. Secondly thereis our staff, who go that extra mile to ensure our couples reallydo have a day to remember. And finally I believe we have oneof the best chefs in the North West in David Gillmore, and anycouple booking their wedding with us knows that they aregoing to have some of the finest quality food around after allwe are the only hotel in the area to have achieved two AARosette status for fine dining and we hope that with Davidsinput it will soon be three!

What made you buy Thornton Hall and what was your vision?

Thornton Hall Hotel is family owned. My vision is alwaysevolving, I hate standing still. Obviously we have to move withthe times as well as the changing needs of the clients, but thereare also the physical changes to the property. We have a rollingprogramme of refurbishment and a number of majordevelopment opportunities over the next couple of years.Examples of which are the further extension having receivedplanning permission for 43 bedrooms as well as furtherdevelopment to our award-winning Spa.

Youve launched a new Fine Dining experience, tell us aboutthe restaurant.

Our Lawns Restaurant already has two AA Rosettes for finedining, and the team we have now is certainly more thancapable of receiving three AA Rosette status in the not toodistant future. David Gillmore our Executive Chef has created aselection of fantastic menus suited to all occasions from theintimate dining experience, special occasions or the largerparty examples of which can be seen atwww.lawnsrestaurant.co.uk

As Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa signs up tosponsor Liverpool Fashion Week, we chatexclusively to chairman, Andrew Thompson...

Why do you think the spa is so popular?

We are a very well established Spa withhighly experienced therapists andtechnicians, offering a wide range oftreatments along with advanced nonsurgical treatments. The Spa has growninto a destination which our guests travelto for Spa day experiences, enjoying the4-star facilities that we have to offer.

What makes your products stand outfrom everyone else?

We offer a wide range of brands such asESPA and Elemis which are marketleaders within the Spa industry offeringthe most luxurious face and bodytreatments. Alongside this we specializein advanced aesthetic procedures such asIntense Pulsed Light for skin rejuvenationand hair removal.

When you go away do you criticise otherhotels and restaurants or do you try andblend in?

For me, going to another hotel/restaurantis like going on a bus-mans holiday younever switch off!

You recently did a photo shoot for OKmagazine here is this going to be aregular thing?

We were very proud to be chosen by OKMagazine to feature as their Spa of theMonth. It raised our profile on a nationallevel and strengthened our position asone of the leading Spas in Merseyside. Iwould definitely welcome more photoshoots such as this.

    How important is customer service?

Our business is all about customerservice, and that is down to the team youbuild around you. Here at Thornton Hall Iam very lucky to have such a great teamwho really care that the customerexperience is fantastic, and they all pridethemselves on giving four star servicesevery day of the week.

Tell us about the renovations for theSpa?

Over the last ten years the Spa hasevolved to meet the needs of ourclientele. Shortly after the Spa wasopened we launched our Hair Spa, givingclients the whole package for hair andbeauty treatments. Over the last fiveyears the Spa industry has crossed pathswith the Aesthetic industry; again clientswanted more from their beauty salons. This led us to open The Lodge ClinicalSpa, situated within the grounds of thehotel in a very private location. Thisenabled us to offer a wider range ofaesthetic procedures such as facialrejuvenation injections, semi permanentmake up (also known as cosmetictattooing), Zoom teeth whitening andmuch more. And most recently we havelaunched our brand new RelaxationSuite, a luxurious and tranquil area forour Spa guests to unwind and relaxbefore and after their treatments. Wehave imported luxury beds from Baliwhich our guests will be able to relax on,while being soothed with relaxing musicand mood changing walls the perfectchill out area.

We have our Signature Spa dayexperience which is exclusive to ThorntonHall Hotel & Spa, and is a truly pamperingday designed to de-stress and rejuvenateour clients.

Have you any more plans for the future?

    Watch this space!

Talk us through a typical day in your life?

Im up at 6.30am to take my son toschool, then come into the hotel and seewhats going on (as every day isdifferent). I leave early in the evening, depending on the business, and try tofind time to relax with my wife and family.

    Are you a perfectionist?

    Absolutely.

    What makes you happy?

    My wife and children.

What do you deem as luxury in your life?

My wife, motorbike and guitar. Oh, andthe odd G&T!

What do you think no one should bewithout in their life?

A sense of humour, and believe me in thehotel trade it is a must.

How did it feel winning Best Spa at theLifestyle Awards in March?

I was delighted and extremely proud ofmy team!

Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa issponsoring Liverpool Fashion Week what are you looking forward to themost about Fashion Week?

The models... but dont tell my wife!

  • Protect your skin by using a moisturiser withan SPF Factor of 15 or higher. Use daily andyou'll help to combat those early signs ofageing such as sun spots and fine lines. Youare exposed to harmful UVA and UVB rayseven on a cloudy day so apply your SPFmoisturiser to a clean face and allow 10minutes for it to absorb before applying yourfoundation. Most foundations now come withan SPF Factor in also.

When the warm weather hits, you might findthat foundation and powder feels too heavy onyour skin. For a fresher, lighter look switch to atinted moisturiser, apply with a brush as youuse a lot less product and can really thin yourbase out and you'll be sure to get aneven/flawless look. A little concealer dabbedunder the eye will give added radiance.

One of the easiest ways to achieve a healthyglow is with bronzing powder. Try EsteeLauder's Bronze Goddess Soft Duo Bronzer(25.50), it has a light and a medium shadewhich blend brilliantly to give your face, shoulders and dcolletage that perfect sunkissed look.

Eyeshadows in lighter, neutral colours areperfect at this time of year. To prevent creasingI always prime the eyes with Urban Decay'sEyeshadow Primer Potion (11.50). If it's areally hot day and you don't want anything onthe eyes, I'd suggest lining the top lids fordefinition use a gel liner as once they are onthey won't budge!

Waterproof mascara is a summer essentialand Lancme's Hypnse Waterproof (20.00) isfantastic as it's all about the product as well asthe brush, the creamy, supple formula goes onsmoothly and doesn't dry out quickly so thereis plenty of time to lengthen and separatelashes without any clumping. If you're a suffererof hay fever, or planning a holiday and want toavoid mascara all together, then eyelash tintingis a great way to darken and define yourlashes.

Exposure to sun light takes it's toll on yourskin and that includes lips. Remember toregularly exfoliate and keep them moisturisedwith lip balm.

Highlighting is also another great way to addcontours to your face as well as giving you aradiant complexion, Benefit's Moonbeam(17.50) is a golden/apricot toned Highlighter, perfect for adding a warm shimmer to tannedor olive skin.

Don't forget your feet! They carry us aroundall day and sometimes we don't pay themenough attention especially throughout thewinter. Build time into your beauty routine andonce a week use a pumice stone or foot fileand invest in a rich moisturiser to keep themsmooth and supple and free from dry andcracked skin.

My favourite dish of PW's is our Ballontine oflochfyne Salmon as it has been with us since we

started 5 years ago and has evolved every yearwhen we change the menus. I think weve got itperfect now but I said that 5 years ago!

What's the most ridiculous request you'vebeen asked?

I wouldnt want to say any reqeusts are riduiculousthrough fear of reprisal from the customers but wedid have one client who wanted ostrich egg andsoilders after watching the F- Word !

Do you relax when you go our for a meal ordo you constantly assess other people'sfood?

When i was a young chef I would tear otherpeoples food to peices when I went out. Nowhowever its more about service to me I want to belooked after when i dine out. You have to exceptsometimes that people will have bad days inresturaunts, or maybe youve ordered the wrongthing. I relax when i go out.

    What makes you unique?

We listen to people its about sanity not vanity if aclient wants steak and chips lets give them thebest steak and chips theyve ever had.

  • Red Perilla ranges from deep red to purplebronze. The large leaves are crinkly or flatwith a separate edge and the flower spikesare purple. It is a beautiful plant for thegarden, providing vivid contrast to themore usual green herbs. It is sometimescalled beefsteak plant because of thecolour of its leaves Red Perilla is also thename of a newly opened steak house, luckily 5 minutes from my house just offAllerton Road, start of Smithdown Road.

An area full of ambient surroundings, renowned for its culture and vitality. This is

a family run steak house and bar providingcustomers with the highest quality foodand drink. Put to the test, Red Perillacertainly delivered.

Owned by award-winning members of theParry family, the restaurant offers aselection of starters, shared deli boards, mains and sweets to suit all tastes.

Upon arrival, we headed through the largebar area and entered the restaurant. Onceseated we looked over the menus andselected our wine for the evening, a spicyShiraz.

For a Monday night the restaurant wasbusy this was probably due to the fantasticweek day special offers. There was a tableof 4 ladies next to me, a big family birthdayand couples galore enjoying the 2 for 1 anymain course offer.

The Specials menu reads as follow:Monday: 2 for 1 on any main course(cheapest course free)Tuesday: Get up to 50% off the food bill,Tables of 2-3 get 20% off, 4-5 get 30%, 6-7is 40% and 8 or more get a full 50% off thefood bill Wednesday: Free bottle of housewine per person when you order a starterand main course Thursday: Steak offer!Order your steak and get a free side orderand sauce of your choice. The wine wasflowing and I dont think my wine or waterglass was empty once. Efficient, warm andfriendly service it is clear this is a familybusiness, yet it was still professional, thefood arrived on time and the menu hadsome superior options.

For starters, we shared a deli board. Weopted for Ruby consisting of salchichon, sardinillas, alejandro chorizo, southwestcheshire federia cheese, home made pate, artichokes and marinated olives. This wasan interesting mix of flavour and textures. Itcertainly got us in the mood for our mains. My dinner guest went for the big one, filletsteak, medium done with peppercornsauce and of course, chunky chips. I choseScottish salmon with cucumber, teriyaki, dill, tarragon, sesame & groundnut oil withan asparagus salad. Both of our mainswere delicious, the Salmon melted in mymouth and was full of flavour, the saladwas fresh, crisp and presented very nicely.

My dinner guest savoured the fillet steak, which was generously proportioned. Icouldnt resist her chunky chips either untilit dawned on me that I had a desert to fit inand write about! Not to fear, one of theowners suggested a digestive ice cream tofinish, very high end and finished our diningexperience perfectly as we chatted withhim about his passion for food and aboutthe live music shows held in the bar.

If I relocated I would make time to traveland dine at Red Perilla. Not only toexperience the stunning food but to have acocktail in the bar and listen to live music. This Sunday I am taking my family to enjoya traditional English roast for just 8.95, agreat price considering there will be nopots and pans to clean afterwards.

Walking off the paved street of RoseLane, you could be forgiven for enteringa traditional Parisian bistro as you openthe glass door to Amber.

Truly putting cosy ambience at the heartof their ethos, Amber oozes comfortableopulence, with the decadent, cream andsilver velvet wallpaper combined withtraditional wooden tables and chairs. The bistro restaurant has been wowingthe ladies who lunch for several yearsnow and has established itself as the chicplace to be seen.

Equally inviting at dinner time, it was adusky and warm summer's eveningwhen we chose to eat there. The staffwere immediately attentive yet highlyskilled enough to not ask too manyquestions as we looked through thesimple yet mouthwatering and diversemenu.

There's a selection of around 10 dishesper course, for starters I had theAsparagus Spears wrapped in parmaham with gruyere and rocket salad with abalsamic dressing. My friend had theSouth American Mojo Chicken Skewerswith a pepper, onion and jalapeno mixwith mint yoghurt.

For mains the carnivore instinct kicked inand I had the signature Amber Burger, atower of home made beef with all thetrimmings including a lovely coleslawside. Served on a wooden board itlooked as delicious as it tasted. My friendhad the steak and chips, cooked toperfection, with its juices running and hada side order of olives to accompany it.

Despite being full we had to taste thedeserts. I tucked into the traditionalchocolate brownie with ice cream, myfavourite desert so I was suitably qualifiedto assess it. And I gave it full marks outof ten. My friend had the amaretto bruleewith white chocolate and walnut fudge.

Amber is understated yet exquisite. Withso many eateries along Allerton Roadand Rose Lane, this place is unrivalled. The staff deliver service with passion, theambiance is refreshingly charming andthe food is delicious- no wonder theyhave embarked on outside catering. Thisis one place not to be missed.

  • The Novotel on Hanover Street may not be anobvious choice for dining out in Liverpool butbypass this and you are definitely missing outon wonderfully fresh meals and friendlyatmosphere in relaxed surroundings. Not onlyis there outstanding service, but great, delicious food served in a contemporarystyled restaurant just across the road fromLiverpool One.

The Elements menu offers an excellent choiceand whether you are staying in the 4 star hotelor not, you can order dishes at any time.

There are nibbles to share, such as tapas orIndian or Greek platters, a huge sandwichchoice and then the main menu. Theresfavourites such as fish and chips and cesearsalad, as well as speciality main courses.

We chose to dine out at lunch time with thebaby, who was an instant hit with staff andhad everyone fussing around her. There is anexcellent childrens menu and they eat for freewhen accompanied with parents. So babyDarling had the fish fingers and chips and waspresented with a beautifully presented towerof 6 fish fingers, salad on the side and Frenchfries. I opted for the Thai Green Chicken Curry(14.50) Not one to usually enjoy spicy foodthe chef made it extra mild to accommodatemy taste buds and it was absolutely divine.Accompanying it was a selection of freshly

baked bread which included rosemary andgarlic flavour and my favourite, the pecan andraisin bread.

My husband had the soup of the day (4.95)cream of vegetable which I then took off himbecause it was so nice. This was followed byLamb Tagine ( 13.95)which was beautifullypresented on a bed offresh green beans andbutter beans.

For desert I had thewhite chocolate andraspberry cheesecake(5.75) and the hubbyhad the plum andfrangipane tart (5.75)which was swiftly takenoff him by the babywho devoured it.

So the moral of the tale, Simon, is dont comeout to eat with us because well polish it off!The Novotel is a hidden gem amongst somany eateries. The staff are wonderful, thefood is equally as good and the wholeexperience far surpasses many restaurantswe have frequented in town. If we didnt haveto pick the kids up from school, wed haveprobably spent the whole afternoon eatingand drinking and relaxing there!

The Warehouse Kitchen & Bar is astylish venue tucked down a sidestreet off the main road throughin Southport. From arriving therewe where greeted with a warmwelcome by the friendly andalready very helpful staff who hadguided us to the location as wewere geographicallyembarrassed!

The restaurant itself is aconverted warehouse on 2 floorsdecorated elegantly. Its warmsurroundings of dark wood, exposed brick and chandliersmake a cosy but classy setting. This place certainly is anupmarket restaurant however ithas a very relaxed and familyorientated atmosphere.

One word to describe the food atthe Warehouse is remarkable. We both had the crab spring rollswith lime to start which tastedfantastic. My friend had thebeautifully presented lobstersalad for her main and I had thefillet steak, which I must say isone of the best tasting steaks Ihave ever had. The presentationof the food was first-class and theportion sizes where just right, leaving a small amount of roomfor the desert. The sticky toffeepudding was thoroughly

enjoyable and my friend highlyrecommends the banana andtoffee sundae.

The menu was a pleasant mix ofeastern and western classics soany taste is accounted for. Theprices are easily in line with thequality of food you receive, although the prices are not cheapthey are not extortionate.

The service throughout wasexceptional, the staff look afteryou and manage to do thiswithout being too intrusive.

I would highly recommend thisrestaurant to anyone for specialoccasions or for just a nice familygathering and there is also asegregated area should wantmore privacy for a private party.

I can only rate this restaurant10/10, remarkable food, exceptional service in a fantasticsetting. I urge you to try this one.

  • Congratulations Kylie, studio album number 11. How does thatmake you feel?It is kind of unbelievable. I thought the tenth album, X, was abenchmark but this one has just been amazing. Its been themost amazing experience.

What was it about this album and this project that made youwant to do it differently to before? The idea (to do it differently) was at the forefront of my mindon this album because Id had a little niggle with the previoustwo albums. But the added reason that all of this came aroundwas because of our dear friend, Jake Shears from the ScissorSisters, who was working in this very studio, as I had startedrecording my album in various studios around the world. Hepraised Stuart highly and loves me dearly, and basicallypestered me and said youve got to do this, itll be so amazing!

Do you regard this album as a return to the dance floor? Ordid you never leave?K: Uh, its been described as a return to the dance floor; I dontthink I ever totally left but it is a return to form Id say.

S-P: Maybe you were in the chill out room for a while.

Looking For An Angel, Cupid, Aphrodite Do you think theresa celestial feel to the album?K: There is something of a celestial feel throughout the album, definitely not on every track but I think we tapped into that, onthe first song we did together Looking For An Angel.Personally, Im always attracted to those ethereal, starry, universal ideas.

S-P: Maybe because you are one! Just throwing it out there ..everyones thinking it .. Im just saying it!

K: Thanks! What does that make this place? If Im a star thenyou must be in my cosmos.

    S-P: Recorded in Heaven.

K: Does it get any better than that?!

  • This is a much lighter album, wasthat some sort of reaction to thedarker times that you had beenthrough?K: I think a lot of what I do now is,in some way, coloured by theexperience I had with illness. I guessI was just feeling like expressing joyat this point, Id written songs moreabout that period in my life eitheron or for the last album, so I didntfeel like going through those again;this was about this moment, thistime, and what a happy experiencethis has been for me.

What is your relationship with loveat the moment?K: Jeez!

S-P: How long have you got?!

K: Thats a massive question! A lotof people question why so manypop songs are about love, whyoperas are so written, why paintingsare painted, why we cry duringreally silly commercials. Love in allits various forms challenges us allthe time and I guess you could saythis was a little love affair with thisalbum. I loved coming to work and Iloved working with Stuart, I thinkthat feeling comes through on thealbum.

S-P: Love is always a great muse forwriting songs, but better a muse forbeing up and down and not plainsailing and I think that gives youideas, or you have things that youlearn over your life that startcoming back out in lyrics. I thinkalso you realise that if youve feltsomething then someone else hasprobably felt it too, and they mayhave felt it in a different way buttheres a connection there. So its agreat way of exorcising demons butits also a really great way ofcelebrating stuff as well; more thananything all of the songs on thisrecord in their various guises of loveare about a celebration.

What was the most fun that youhad on the record?S-P: Well what you probably cantsee is that by mine and Kylies feettheres a little six foot square areathat was designated the dancezone.

K: You guys are right in it! You feelsome kind of movement?

S-P: That was when you knew asong was right, and you knew thatit was saying what we wanted tosay.

K: Wed both be listening in ourown world and thered be the pointin the song when the hands wouldgo up! Hands up - good reaction. And of course there was the DollyParton Litmus Test which Ive gotto tell you has travelled, Ive beenasked so much about that.

    S-P: Itsworked!

K: Shall we tell that little story?

S-P: You should yeah. That camefrom New York as well.

K: It did! The soon to betrademarked and copyrightedDolly Parton Litmus Test is away of, testing a songs viabilityas a song without production.Hed get his acoustic guitar outand wed sing.

S-P: Well it wasnt quite singing itwas more of a performance.

    K: True.

S-P: Kylie does the best DollyParton impersonation there is onthe planet, ever! We figured outthat if that worked for any song, and we could see Dolly doing it;then on top of that we could sitdown with a guitar and do it likethat as well - the song wasprobably destined for goodthings. It became, as you say, asort of litmus test for each songon the record. Subsequently itsalso gone on to be the thing thatstays in your head - quitestrongly as well!

    K: It does!

S-P: And destined Kylie to do itat every dinner party she goes tofrom this point onwards to theend of time.

K: Then as a celebration when itwas my last day coming in hereto wrap up a couple of things, Itook it upon myself to get two ofthe cheapest, gnarliest, got-nothing-to-do-with-a-natural-fibre-at-all outfits - cowboy andcowgirl. One was couriered hereearlier in the day with a message- I cant remember what I wrote -but just reading it you could tellit was in that accent yall!

S-P: It mentioned grits in itsomewhere as well.

K: It did mention grits. So by thetime I got here later in the day, Idid a quick change at theentrance and walked in to findmy cowboy with Kenny Rogersblasting out of the stereo, then Icame in and punched out a goodold rendition of Yeeeeeha! withAll The Lovers, in Dolly PartonLitmus Test style.

S-P: We got the baked beans onthe fire for that one!

K: That was one of our most funmoments.

Q: Was this one of the most funalbums youve ever made then?K: Yep. Without a doubt!

  • I had a road traffic accident which was not my fault; I havesustained a personal injury. I have been told by my insurancecompany that I have to use their panel solicitors. Is thiscorrect?

No. You are entitled to use a solicitor of your own choice. However, it isquite common for insurance companies to put pressure on you not todo so. Some people can feel quite intimidated by their insurancecompanies approach, so much so that they find themselves agreeingto use the solicitors suggested by them, even though they have neverheard of them or they are based in another part of the country. Youmust be firm with your insurance company on this point and dont bebullied by them into using a solicitor you dont know or dont haveconfidence in.

Following a road traffic accident you must inform your own insurancecompany of the accident, but the sooner you make contact with thesolicitor of your own choice, the better. Injuries in road traffic accidentscan range from a minor whiplash type injury to very serious injuries.Whatever the level of your injury is, it is important that you have aspecialist personal injury solicitor dealing with your claim who canadvise you about claiming compensation for your injuries, rehabilitationand claiming for any other damages or losses which you have incurredas a result of the accident.

More and more, insurance companies are trying to freeze out solicitors. You may even find that you will be contacted shortly after the accidentby the other drivers insurance company making you an offer to settleyour claim for personal injuries there and then. Beware of thisapproach, as although it may sound appealing, it could have disastrousconsequences should you accept the offer as a full and final settlementof your claim and then find that you are more seriously injured that youfirst thought. Again, all the more reason for contacting the Solicitor ofyour own choice.

It is important that you feel at the end of your claim that you havereceived the maximum compensation possible for your case.

You case can be dealt with on a no win, no fee basis and you shouldalways receive 100% of your compensation.

I was walking along the pavement when I went over on myankle and tore ligaments. The pavement had a slight raise init which caused me to go over is anyone responsible forthis and can I make a claim?

Tripping claims on the highway are notoriously difficult claims to pursue. The Highway Authority have a duty to maintain the highway imposed bySection 41 of the Highways Act 1980, however the Highway Authoritywill often seek to rely on the special defence provided by Section 58of the Highways Act 1980, by which it is a defence to prove that theyhad taken such care in all the circumstances as was reasonablyrequired to secure that part of the highway to which the action relates, was not dangerous.

The Highway Authority will attempt to do this by showing that they havea regular system of inspection, maintenance and repair in place.

Another stumbling block (no pun intended!) in pursuing a tripping claimis that in order for a defect to be actionable and to be considereddangerous, the defect, in so far as pavements are concerned, has tomeasure at least one inch (25mm), otherwise it is likely that the claimwill fail.

Therefore, it is crucial that good photographs are taken showing thedefect and its exact measurements. This information can be thedifference in your claim succeeding or failing. At EAD, we employ ourown in-house Legal Photographer for this purpose, as we realise theimportance of it. For example, it could be important in some claims tofind out whether the pavement rocks as this could be an importantfactor if, for instance, the defect measured below one inch (25mm).Depending upon the mechanics of your fall it could mean that a claimcould be pursued on your behalf in certain circumstances.

Sometimes, tripping accidents are considered trivial but people cansustain very serious injuries by tripping or falling on the highway due toa defective pavement. Clearly they are not straightforward cases andtherefore, it is vital that you consult a Solicitor who is experienced indealing with these types of claims who understands the technicaldefence which may be put forward by the Council and who can obtainthe compensation that you are entitled to for your injuries and otherlosses.

My time is up. The beach is looming. For 6months I have ached, sweated and groaned inpursuit of a better body. Next week I fly out toCyprus and hopefully the work and dedicationof dragging myself to Elite Fitness Trainingthrough the snow, cold wind, rain and recentlymuggy heat, has paid off.

While I havent achieved the size 10 J-Lo bodyI originally envisaged, I have lost my bingowings, my waist has shrunk several inches andbest of all, my thighs are cellulite free. Sixmonths of lunges have done the job. And mysize 14 clothes are very loose- looks like I am inneed of a trimmer wardrobe!

Two days ago I managed 80 press ups in onesession. Incredibly I didnt ache the next day. Icant believe how much fitter I am, my skin isglowing, my appetite for chocolate and sugarysnacks has shrunk- only slightly but significantenough for me to notice. My children say I amthinner (This whole thing started because mydaughter called me fat at Christmas) and I feela lot better in myself generally.

Exercise releases positive endomorphines thatmake you feel happy, exercise has thereforebecome a drug to me and I crave my sessionsevery week. They are a great stress buster.

I have had a few sessions with Lewisscolleague, Kane. In fact I am due to meet himin a couple of hours. Thinking that with Lewisout of the way Kane would go easier on mewas a mistake. He had me doing circuittraining with 10 kg dumbbells within minutesof me entering the studio. Within half an hour Iwas gasping for breath and dripping in sweat.Afterwards Lewis said that he has asked Kaneto be tough on me. Great. These personaltrainers have it in for me.

Lewis has told me that if I keep up thisdedication I may well be officially thin inanother 6 months. When he is not shouting atme to keep going and push harder heexplains that before I met him, because Ihadnt done any serious exercise in over 10years (shocking isnt it!) my metabolism is slowand sluggish. Fat deposits built up and overtime and are now stubborn to shift and so itsnot going to happen over night. He set me anachievable target of 12 months. I am half waythere. lets see what happens. Two weeks inthe Mediterranean sunshine will be a boost.

Times have changed dramatically overthe last 30 years. Today we are 3 timesmore stressed than our grandparentswere. We now live in an age of seriousinactivity, high demanding jobs, bills, children, impossible deadlines and trafficto name a few stresses and thats withouteven going into the stress ofrelationships these days. No matterwhere you live in the Western world wecannot avoid these stressful situations.

Over the last 5 years I have found thatthe majority of my clients are stressedand this seriously affects their weightloss goals. So how does stress make youfat? Without going into too muchtechnical detail, we produce certainstress hormones which cause a numberof chemical changes around the body. This reaction is the bodys ownprotection system that is preparing us tofight the danger or run away from it.Blood is directed away from the internalorgans and to the muscles in preparationto defend our selves, as a result thedigestive system is affected and many ofour normal bodily functions completely

slow down. To give you an example, thinkabout when you have been waiting in thequeue for a scary roller coaster ride at atheme park, you probably felt yourmouth drying up, your heart rateincreasing, palms of youre hands sweatybut feel cold.does this sound familiar? The last thing you feel like doing iseating, your digestive system had prettymuch stopped but after it has all pastyou probably feel the urge to stuff yourface with sugary foods. This is a typicalstress response and may not happenevery day but the smaller stresses in lifehave the same affect without youknowing.

Put simply the more you release yourstress hormones the more the body willtry to rebalance as much as possible andafter long periods of time will stopproducing these hormones as the glandsproducing them become fatigued.

Once we loose the ability to producethese hormones the fat burning cycle isgreatly restricted, metabolism is seriouslyaffected and we cannot burn fat but have

the ability to store more of it. So if youfind yourself not losing any weight andhave tried diet and exercise then you willprobably have a hormonal imbalancewhich stress will certainly play a majorpart of.

At Elite we are qualified to deal with allthese issues that affect the bodyallowing us to achieve 100% success ratewith our clients. We are currently offeringstress management courses tocompanies with over 10 employees forvery little cost. We work with businessesover a 12 month period to help reducestress within the workplace whichprovides a more productive, efficient andhappier work force.

So if you are a part of a company thatfeels that you would benefit from havinga stress free, efficient workforce or if yousuffer from stress yourself and would likesome one to one coaching then callLewis on 07771 533 408 or [email protected] wewould love to help you!
