Hello Esplanade Residents, Welcome to 2019! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your families. Season is finally here and we have lots going on in the community. I wanted to give you all an update on the Learning Center that I know many of you are excited about. As of press date, we still do not have CO on the building. That being said we still can not hold meetings or events at the building until we receive all clearances from the county. When that time comes, we will announce it to everyone. We appreciate your patience and your cooperation in not walking through or using the building until all of the proper certificates are issued. We look forward to many great events in this new building this season! Your Lifestyle Team has planned some exciting events to keep you entertained all month long. We will have “Yappy Hour” at the dog park, a cooking class with Chef Brian, an Arts & Craft Show, another fun art class called Art from the Heart and an offsite trip to Ngala with exotic animal encounters. Be sure not to forget about our Concierge program! Special discounts and services offered exclusively to our Esplanade residents. Recently added to this amazing program are discounted game day tickets to the Everblades hockey games and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I am looking forward to a FUN season with all of you. Best Regards, Carri Adam

A Message from the
Greetings Esplanade Residents, As we’re on the threshold of the new year, we would like to share the club's direction as well as a
couple of key reminders.
Taylor Morrison is pleased to announce the addition of Nathan Stith, in his role as Community
Management Director, to the southwest Florida team. Nathan’s distinguished career includes tenure as the General Manager of the Ritz Carlton Golf Club at Grande Lakes, in Orlando, Florida. Nathan previously served as Director of Golf at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa. Nathan received his BS in
Business Administration and Marketing from Methodist University.
In partnership with the active groups participating on a volunteer basis within the community, the Board would like to begin the process to elect the first resident board member during the first
quarter of 2019. The formal election notice and process will begin after the New Year. In conjunction
with such election, formalizing the Finance and Golf Committees would follow immediately with the
support of the newly elected resident board member. Following is the communication strategy for 2019:
-Developer updates: Quarterly - consisting of two town hall meetings in January and October. -Monthly Neighborhoods News - hosted in person by General Manager with Developer
Representative. -Finance and Golf Committee meetings (six to eight annually) with minutes being posted on the
community website.
We look forward to the opportunity to work together in the coming year. Warm Regards, Jeff Thomas General Manager | [email protected] | 239-494-8020

Energy Balance: Caloric Intake & Output
Ciera Kelly | Fitness Manager | [email protected]
If you want to understand how calories work, think of your body like having a calorie bank. You can make energy
deposits and withdrawals, just like money deposits and withdrawals from the bank. When your caloric costs
(energy you exert) are the same as the calories you consume, your balance stays the same. When your caloric
costs are greater than the calories you consume, your body fat will decrease. If the calories you consume are
greater than the calories you exert, your body stores the extra calories and therefore your body fat will increase.
Taking time to exercise and work on your goals is an investment. This sounds simple, but there are other factors
that influence energy balance. Each food brings in different calories and each activity exerts different amounts of
energy, including rest! Everyone has different caloric needs and expenditure. Start to find your balance by using
the chart below to learn about the factors involved with energy intake and output.

2. Coat a large rimmed baking sheet with
cooking spray.
3. Toss cauliflower, oil and salt in a large
bowl.
4. Spread on the prepared baking sheet,
reserve the bowl.
5. Roast the cauliflower until it’s starting to
soften and brown on the bottom, about 15
minutes.
6. Meanwhile, combine the hot sauce, sriracha
to taste, butter and lemon juice in the large
bowl.
7. Add the roasted cauliflower and toss to coat.
8. Return the cauliflower to the baking sheet
and continue roasting until hot, about 5
minutes more.

PICKLEBALL TIPS
Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, we always look for certain tips that can
help elevate our game to the next level. Below are some suggested tips to help your game and become a
better player:
• Listen and accept suggestions that you’ve violated a rule. It’s to your benefit.
• Don’t try to serve hard or near the sidelines.
• Loft service returns so they go deep, giving you time to get to the non-volley line.
• Remember that both the serve and the serve return must bounce before you can hit the ball, so remain at or
behind the baseline after serving to receive the third shot.
• Always get to the non-volley line as soon as you can. It’s the strongest position.
• Face the player who will hit the ball, not the net. You will be better placed to hit the ball.
• Keep your paddle high, near your chest; your reaction time will be quicker.
• Keep the ball in play — let your opponent make the mistakes. Seventy-five percent of all rallies are won or
lost because of unforced errors, many of them at the baseline.
• Return your baseline shots to the center line as often as you can.
• Use your forehand for power, especially on the serve return, but also developing a good backhand will give
you a more complete game.
• Placement is much more important than power; emphasize control over pace.
• Don’t try to make a lot of sideline shots; they are low percentage. Hit to open areas (i.e., hit it where they
aren’t).
• Make note whether an opponent is right or left handed. Avoid hitting to the opponent’s strong side. • Don’t take your partner’s shots away by crowding his/her position. Do move to the centerline when your
partner is pulled to the sideline to return a shot.
