Our students’ response was exceptional, with many students not only attending the Mass, but also participating in the procession from St Andrew’s Community Hall, along the footpath to Church. The students represented the College with reverence and the parishioners were pleased to see our involvement in the St Andrew’s Community. Thank you to Mrs Baker, Mr Billingsley, Mr Boylen, Ms Christie, Mr Davis, Mr Summers and Ms Thomson for supporting our students on the day. Mrs Daphne Peters Campus Ministry

MercyCare Community Garden On Wednesday, 29th May eight students travelled to MercyCare Community Garden to help with the ‘messy play’ section (a paddling pool filled with soil), using the soil at the end of the event to fill three new, large plant pots. The College has an on-going partnership with MercyCare and our little group of gardeners enjoyed their time there immensely, serving our community. Mrs Janice Bell Campus Ministry

Year 12 Outdoor Education As part of the Year 12 Outdoor Education ATAR course, students travelled to the pristine beaches and coral reefs of the Cape Range National Park, near Exmouth. Students put their planning, camping and technical outdoor skills into practice. They completed a 30km kayak and snorkeling expedition, carrying all their own food, water and equipment.

The students are responsible for facilitating the experience for themselves and their peers. The teachers providing advice and safety only. As well as being one of the major assessments for the term, it also deepens the students’ knowledge of the course content and care for the natural environment.

Thank you to Capricorn Sea Kayaking and Mrs Lasscock for assisting students to achieve their goals and fulfill their potential. Mr Neil Bright Head of Outdoor Education

Semester Examinations Year 11 and 12 students commenced examinations last Friday. We have been very impressed with the manner students have prepared for and presented themselves for the examinations. This has also been the case with students in General and VET courses who have had assessments, and half and full day workshops. Some Workplace Learning students have undertaken extended time at work experience. The Years 7,8,9 and 10 students will sit their examinations next week.

We wish all students success with their assessments and thank all teachers for their planning, preparation and marking of assessments. Our teachers work many extra hours, particularly at this time of the year. We also thank parents and family members for supporting students with their preparation for the mid-year assessments.

Surf Life Saving Club Achievements Congratulations to Year 10 student Aaron Morey-Prior, who received his Surf Life Saving Bronze Medallion at the Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club in March this year and to Year 8 student, Jake Harvey who received his Surf Rescue Certificate. Both families are active members of the club. The boys trained very hard for their achievements along with 16 others, who were mainly adults. They acted very maturely and impressed the trainers with their talents. The excellent skills the boys have gained will enable them to help others on the beach and in the community. Since the training, Aaron has also achieved his Senior First Aid and is a Training Official for Surf Life Saving WA. Both boys will continue to train with the club as they get older. It is a very rewarding sport for teenagers. As they continue with surf life saving, they can be involved with IRB training, boat rowing, jetski’s and other SLS awards, and could even progress from Lifesaver to Lifeguard if they are interested. There are also competitions with other surf life saving clubs.
