Lifecycle Solutions & Services

Extend the Life of Automation Assets While Protecting Intellectual Property EHPM solution allows Honeywell’s TDC/TPS Systems to modernize to the

advanced technology of the Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS)

which ensures improved operations and control performance.

What’s Your Roadmap to the Future?

In a competitive global environment, the need to improve

plant efficiency and profitability plays an important role in the

benefits evaluation of control automation solutions. Leveraging

automation capabilities through simplified, cost-effective

modernization to a new technology optimizes the investment

process and increases the potential for further operational

improvements.

With a modern technology, plants can increase operational

effectiveness, lower costs and improve regulatory compliance

while responding to market demands for better product quality

and faster delivery.

Manage Your Automation Lifecycle Honeywell is committed to lifecycle support and helping

customers meet their business needs for automation planning.

For more than 35 years, we have delivered high-value service

supported by continuous technology evolution and improvements.

Honeywell’s support capabilities and expertise have more

global reach and presence than any other supplier. Our

technology evolution—followed consistently for decades—

provides maximum protection of your current investments

with proven lifecycle results.

Honeywell’s new automation evolution vision allows full

flexibility in your lifecycle planning, starting with long-term

support of existing equipment through modernization for life

expectancy extensions or upgrades for plant performance

improvements. Linearity of capital investments, together

with efficiency improvements is fully supportable using an

incremental modernization and upgrade approach.

EHPM Evolution Vision

The EHPM evolution vision is based on control-level

integration applying the latest technology trends. It is named

for the industry’s most widely used and reliable controller—

Honeywell’s High-performance Process Manager (HPM).

As part of the evolution, the HPM will be modernized to the new

Fault Tolerant Ethernet (FTE) technology and carry the name

Enhanced High-performance Process Manager (EHPM).

EHPM is a long-term/multi-phase evolution vision to

integrate the control environment of Honeywell’s TDC/TPS–

Experion® PKS systems within a single unified physical

network for safety and control devices.

EHPM: An Integrated TDC/TPS to Experion Control Architecture 2

The first development steps of the evolution vision will become

available during the period of 2012-2014. They include:

• Infrastructure with the FTE-based EHPM

• Control function enhancements with control-level data exchange between EHPM and C300

• Safety function enhancements with data exchange between EHPM and Safety Manager (SM), and modernization of the Fail Safe Controller (FSC) functions to SM

EHPM Benefits Sustainability:

• Keeps your automation system running longer than with existing technology

• Protects intellectual property investments

• Allows full utilization of available skills and resources at your operating facilities

With the new technology, the remaining economic life of your

control and safety equipment can be extended by 30-50%.

Greater Efficiency for Production Expansions:

• Enables replication of intellectual property using same controller families

• Allows expansions with controllers of your choice

• Retains consistency in operations by applying a unified Human Machine Interface (HMI) environment

Replications of controller software and common displays

can reduce the engineering effort for control system

expansion by up to 50%.

Lifecycle Cost:

• Minimal modernization effort

• Better network diagnostics using FTE technology

• Reduced maintenance cost

Improved reliability with modernization, better diagnostic

features and the use of common network technology can

reduce maintenance costs by more than 5%.

New Flexibility in Automation Planning:

• Increase the effective life of automation assets at minimal investment cost

• Improve plant efficiency with investment linearity applying incremental modernizations and upgrades

• Modernize control assets at your own pace

Take Advantage of Incremental Development Phases

The following use scenarios demonstrate how

Honeywell customers can take advantage of the

EHPM development phases.

Infrastructure with FTE-based EHPM

Applicable when:

• You need to expand production with additional control networks or (E)HPM controllers

• You plan to modernize PM/APM/HPM controllers

• You consider upgrading Data Hiway networks

The infrastructure offers the following benefits:

• Support longevity

• Reduced maintenance cost

• Reduced engineering effort

• Retention of consistency in operation

• Utilization of available resources

Control Functions: Peer-to-Peer Between EHPM and C300

Applicable for:

• Improvement of overall response time

• Reduction of system load

• Enhancements with a controller-of-choice

The peer-to-peer solution offers the following benefits:

• Complex loop response time

• Reduced traffic through gateways

• Reduced engineering cost for enhancements

Applicable when:

• You need to expand production with additional control and safety devices

• You plan to modernize FSC controllers

The peer-to-peer solution offers the following benefits:

• Support longevity

• Reduced maintenance cost

• Retention of consistency in operation

• Retention of the intellectual property
