1.Are plants living or non living?
• Plants are living (biotic) things.
![Page 3: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
2. What is the big difference between plants and animals?• The one big difference between
plants and animals is that plants can make their own food.
![Page 4: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
3. What is the name of the process that allows plants to
make their own food, and where does this process take
place?• A plant makes its
own food by a process called photosynthesis which takes place in the plant’s leaves.
![Page 5: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
4. The process of photosynthesis
• The process of photosynthesis:
• Light is trapped in the chlorophyll, the material that makes a leaf green.
• The light energy starts the food making process.
![Page 6: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
4 b. What are carbon dioxide and water used to make?
• The plant uses carbon dioxide and water to make the food.
![Page 7: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
4 c. In photosynthesis, the leaves take in carbon dioxide.
What do the roots take in?• The leaves take in
carbon dioxide and the roots take in the water.
![Page 8: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
4 d. In photosynthesis the water travels to what plant
part?• The water travels
to the leaves.
![Page 9: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
4 e. What do the leaves use to make food from the carbon
dioxide and water?
• The leaves use the energy from the light to make food from the carbon dioxide and water.
![Page 10: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
4 f. What is the food that is made by a plant?
• The food that is made by the plant is sugar.
![Page 11: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
4 g. What plant part gives off oxygen?
• Oxygen is a waste product of photosynthesis.
• It is given off by
the leaves.
![Page 12: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
5. What are the four components that allow
photosynthesis to take place?
• A plant needs light, carbon dioxide, chlorophyll, and water to carry out photosynthesis.
![Page 13: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
5a. What give plants their green color?
• Chlorophyll gives plants their green color.
![Page 14: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
6. What are the three basic plant parts?
• There are three basic plant parts : leaves, stems, and roots.
![Page 15: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
7. Are all leaves the same?
• Leaves come in different shapes and sizes.
![Page 16: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
8. What is a leaf’s job?
• Leaves help carry out the process of photosynthesis.
![Page 17: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
What is a stem’s job?
• Stems support plants and give them shape.
• They also contain tubes that carry water and minerals from the roots and food from the leaves to all parts of the plant.
• Stems also store water and food.
![Page 18: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
10. Where are roots located? What is their job?
• Roots: There are many different types of roots, however most roots are underground and hold plants in the soil.
• Roots take in water and nutrients that plants need for photosynthesis.
• Ex: Cacti have roots that grow near the surface because it is easier to collect rain water near the surface in their very dry climate.
![Page 19: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
11. What does a plant need from its environment in order
to survive?
• To live, a plant needs four things from its environment- air, nutrients, water, and light.
![Page 20: Life Science-Plants Part 1 of 2 Mrs. Delaup Ms. Martinez Abney Elementary.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56649ef65503460f94c0a219/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
12. What gas is breathed out by animals and taken in by
plants?• Carbon Dioxide is a gas breathed out
by animals and taken in by plants.

13. What do plants get from soil, water, and rain?
• Plants get nutrients from soil and water from rain.
