Focus on the Kalamazoo Region

The river here makes the sound of "kalamazoo" and became the name of our great town, K‐A‐L‐A‐M‐A‐Z‐O‐O, a town sung about by the likes of the Glen Miller Orchestra, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Johnny Cash.Yes, there really is a Kalamazoo!

Why are we cool? Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter is from here.  Two‐time Olympic gold medalist Lindsay Tarpley calls it home.  So does American Idol’s Season 8 Top Five finalist Matt Giraud.  AT&T’s postcard TV ad with Luke Wilson features Kalamazoo.   From Fortune 500 companies to two‐person start‐ups, the Kalamazoo region is home to some of the world’s most innovative companies and has been for more than a century. This is the place that was once the celery capital of the world, where the yellow‐checkered cab first hit the streets and where the first corn flake was first boxed.

Kalamazoo (kal∙a∙ma∙zoo) n.A Native American word meaning boiling water.
