It startsPicture yourself setting sail on a new expedition; a few feet away from

where you stand is a vast sea of ambiguity. You and a couple othersare given a map with instructions to climb into the boat at the edge ofthe beach. Other than these provisions, you have no idea where youare headed to. As you paddle away from shore, you start to develop anostalgic feeling of leaving home. Despite these emotions, you’vedecided its time to move on. The map leads you to a mysterious archipelagowith hundreds of magical doors levitating above each island. Each dooris full of promises and uncertainties that await you. How will you choose?

Will you lay hands on the doorknob of a clear, transparent door thatpromises a safe passage? Or will you choose to open the dark, opaquedoor, a riskier route but potentially more rewarding? Are you going to beaccompanied by others – friends with whom you can share the successesand tribulations of your journey? Or will you brave the journey alone? Thechoices that lay before you are endless, but there is no right or wronganswer: you are here to…

You’ve probably already been told a thousand times that what you do in

high school will signicantly affect your future. As you embark on your journey known as high school, do not underestimate yourself. You will bethe one who takes control of the four years you will spend at LynbrookHigh. You can make every day an adventure… or you can dread wakingup to the sound of that alarm clock at seven in the morning. You cansurround yourself with close friends that share your interests andpassions… or you can allow yourself to be mixed into an unfamiliarcrowd of strangers. You can welcome high school as an opportunity to

learn more about the world you live in, and reach to the highest peaks ofsuccess… or you can take it for granted and plummet into a deep abyss. The possibilities are innite.

Adventure, learning, challenge, responsibility - the promise of beinga Lynbrook Viking is all this and much more. So are you ready for thisadventure to begin? Then turn the page and let’s get started.

Students begin working oversummer on a class production involving elements of an acting cast, script, backdrop, decorations, dances, and costumes. During homecomingweek, classes (staff too) present their masterpiece to the rest of theschool in the Quad. This leads up to the Homecoming football game, presentation of the Homecoming court, and awarding of a trophy to theclass that truly exemplies Homecoming spirit. A semi-formal dance isheld at the end of the week to conclude the festivities.

You will see the school mascot at numerousevents - rallies, home sport games - representingthe Lynbrook promise of adventure, learning, challenge, and responsibility and regularly keeping

JUDY BOEHM

nancial specialistSomething she wishes she got to do in high school but never got the chance to do:  Spend a week visiting another school elsewhere in the nation.Who she looked up to when she was a freshman: My high school was 10-12, and I had

just moved from another state so I didn’t know anyone to look up to.One interesting fact: Fresh from college my employment was with Red Cross as a social

worker in military hospitals. I had to learn medical, psychiatric and military “language”immediately. It’s difcult to describe the torn feelings this war painted on thetapestry of our nation.

Something she wishes she got to do in high school but never got the chance to do: Lookingback, I wish I had joined the choir or taken a drama class.Who she looked up to when she was a freshman: My brother was a senior when I was a freshman. He was my hero. I looked up to him and all his friends. They took care of me and put up withme hanging around with them until I eventually found my own group of friends.

One interesting fact: When I was in high school, I worked as an ofcial scorekeeper for EastHills Little League. Part of my job was to place the bases, chalk the eld and announcethe games.email: [email protected]
