APPROACH
ü The programme seeks to enroll 20 children aged 6-14 by mid September and runs for 6 weeks, starting October 3rd. (*)
ü The programme is in English and requires a good level of understanding of the language but children do not need to be native speakers.
ü Each session is foundational to the next, so children are invited to join the programme at the outset, without skipping sessions.
ü Two pedagogical roles: the 'guru', a subject matter expert and content-focused (makers, tinkerers, hackers, explorers and deeply passionate about their field) the 'facilitator', master of group dynamics, learning patterns, visual design and process-focused.
ü It is a not for profit programme. We aim to cover the costs and based on 20 kids participating we are budgeting a cost of €350 per child and €200 for each sibling.
ü A parents + kids briefing session will be organised immediately prior and post programme.

THE PROGRAMME 1/2
TECH LAB Children enjoy learning the basics of modern electronics through a tactile, learning by doing experience.
They crack open and disassemble everyday electronic equipment such as printers, computers and I-pads to understand how they are made and how they function.
We demystify what looks complex such as electricity, transistors, motherboards, soundcards and understand the complexity of what looks simple, such as GPS location and touch screen technology.
Kids are also introduced to advanced digital technology such as avatars, QR codes and 3D printing
Core electronic components are made available so that children can work in small teams of 2-3 to re-build their own favourite electronic kit.
Additionally each kid can create a GPS enabled wearable device which they can use in the second part of the programme (see next page).

THE PROGRAMME 2/2
ADVENTURE TRAIL Kids plan, prepare and pack for a full day adventure in the hills of Barcelona .
Pocket money will be given to the children to plan, budget and purchase what’s needed for the session.
The adventure day is organized as a geo-caching. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices.
Kids navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. The geocache contains a riddle that needs to be solved by the kids. They will be using their own wearable device as built in the previous sessions.
Total of 2 hours of planning and prep + 1 full-day excursion
Tuesday 3 November (*), 17.30-19.30 check in and briefing
Saturday 7 November (*) full day: excursion
(*) dates are not yet cast in stone as they depend on the weather and families diaries. We'll try to accommodate as much as possible.
