Passport to Success “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” Malcom X

We want to set our students up for success in their lives, in their future; and their education is vital to that. The key message is that as teachers we need to prepare and educate students to the highest level, the highest standard as the future is in their hands. We need to set them up for success in school and success in life. And as we know, preparation is everything. So, if education is the passport to the future, then the question remains, what makes a successful student? In this session we will look to answer this question and show how we can help students get their passport to the future and be successful global citizens using National Geographic Learning’s Close-up series.

Liam Peach Liam Peach is originally from Britain. For several years he has been working as a writer, edito r and speaker for Bridge Publishing House and National Geographic Learning. His teacher training workshops focus on life in English learning speaking countries and introducing modern teaching methods into everyday lessons.

Primary: So many Skills, So Little Time Our students need to practice reading, writing, speaking, and listening. But there are only so many minutes in one class. This presentation will look at how to practise multiple skills in a single lesson organized around one topic. We will work with the new Bridge Publishing House bonus, a pre-made lesson plan for teachers, and talk about how to apply the same theories to any materials.

David Fisher Bear Theatre is partner of the conference with David Fisher as their speaker. David Fisher has been doing drama and incorporation of drama and its techniques into English lesson for more than twenty years. Connecting teaching English and acting methods is a unique tool which is useful for all students and teachers.

GeneraL: Creating Scenes This workshop relaxes students with a number of energetic warm-up games before helping them to work together to create and perform theatre scenes. These scenes are either taken from scripts or are created from the students own ideas. In both cases, students are given a real taste of how theatre is made and have fun working intensively as a group.

Developing Globally aware Students We are no longer just citizens of our town or our country. We are living in a 21st century global society and so we must think, act and behave as responsible global citizens. What’s more, English is the lingua franca of this global community and so as English teachers we have a responsibility to ensure that we bring the world to the classroom and introduce them to their responsibilities as global citizens. Referencing National Geographic Learning’s Our World series, this session will look at how we can develop this idea of global citizenship through English Language teaching, focussing on three essential areas: global knowledge, global skills and global values.

SeConDary: Why are We Here? There are only so many minutes in a day and we want to cram as much knowledge as possible into our students’ heads. So how do we set our goals? This seminar will look at setting lesson aims, how to design activities that practice multiple skills, and balancing individual and group work with whole class activities. We will talk about setting lesson aims and deciding whether they were met. All teachers will receive the new Bridge Publishing House bonus, a pre-made lesson plan for teachers.
