Linked to Lake Alexandrina at Narrung, Lake Albert is freshwater with an average
depth of 1.5 metres. Smaller in size at 166 sq km, Lake Albert is an important lake for wetland
habitat and agricultural use.

Malachi Martin was a stage coach driver who, in the mid-1800’s travelled the Kingston to Encounter Bay route. Jane McNinamen, a servant girl working for Martin’s wife at the Salt Creek Tavern, went missing. Eventually her body was found and Martin was arrested for murder. The inquest was held at Woods Well Tavern while Martinwas chained to a table. He was found guilty and hung in 1862.

Jane McNinamen, a servant girl working for Martin’s wife at the Salt Creek Tavern, went missing. Eventually her body was found and Martin was arrested for murder. The inquest was held at Woods Well Tavern while Martinwas chained to a table. He was found guilty and hung in 1862.
