And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as He told you.” What a statement to hear, “He has risen; he is not here.” My little Olivia, age 5, is scared of spiders. She’s not scared of much else, but for whatever reason, she will not go near a spider. Even at the smallest spider she will just stand there and holler until one of us comes and kills it for her. She believes that spider could hurt her somehow. Her belief effects her actions. Sometimes I ask myself if we really believe what the Bible says. Do we really believe Jesus was the Son of God? Do we really believe he died to take away our sins? Do we really believe Jesus rose from the dead? Because if we really believed these things it would mean a total transformation of our lives. Maybe we do believe these things but we don’t understand what it all means. It means we have a God who is on our side. We have a God who will fight the battle for us. We have a God who will never forsake us. I know times get rough and we don’t understand why certain things happen, but our God will never leave us. Do we understand that? Look up at the night sky and see all those stars. For all the stars you see there are millions you don’t see. Now think about the creation of those stars, “And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so.” (Genesis 1:14-15) God said it, and it was so. A star system so far beyond our understanding was created because God deemed it to be so. That God, that all powerful God, is on your side. That magnificent God has paid your debt and defeated death for you. That spectacular God desires a relationship with you, He wants to talk to you, guide you, comfort you. That is the God we serve. That is the God who raised Jesus from the dead. That is the God who is interceding for us, who has sent us His Spirit. What is there, then, that we cannot do? If God is for us, who can be against us? Live this life not just believing in the empty tomb, but believing in all that it means for you. Church Newsletter– March 22, 2017

Note from the Pastor: Mark 16:5-7 ESV

And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side,

dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. And he said to them, “Do not

be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he

is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and

Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as

He told you.”

What a statement to hear, “He has risen; he is not here.” My little Olivia,

age 5, is scared of spiders. She’s not scared of much else, but for whatever

reason, she will not go near a spider. Even at the smallest spider she will just

stand there and holler until one of us comes and kills it for her. She believes

that spider could hurt her somehow. Her belief effects her actions.

Sometimes I ask myself if we really believe what the Bible says. Do we really

believe Jesus was the Son of God? Do we really believe he died to take away

our sins? Do we really believe Jesus rose from the dead? Because if we really

believed these things it would mean a total transformation of our lives. Maybe

we do believe these things but we don’t understand what it all means. It means

we have a God who is on our side. We have a God who will fight the battle for

us. We have a God who will never forsake us. I know times get rough and we

don’t understand why certain things happen, but our God will never leave us.

Do we understand that? Look up at the night sky and see all those stars. For all

the stars you see there are millions you don’t see. Now think about the creation

of those stars, “And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens

to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons,

and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to

give light upon the earth.” And it was so.” (Genesis 1:14-15) God said it, and

it was so. A star system so far beyond our understanding was created because

God deemed it to be so. That God, that all powerful God, is on your side. That

magnificent God has paid your debt and defeated death for you. That spectacular

God desires a relationship with you, He wants to talk to you, guide you, comfort

you. That is the God we serve. That is the God who raised Jesus from the dead.

That is the God who is interceding for us, who has sent us His Spirit.

What is there, then, that we cannot do? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Live this life not just believing in the empty tomb, but believing in all that it

means for you.

Blessings, Geoff
