Life Group Study Guide “30 000 Feet” – Ephesians 2:1-10 “Before Life Group” 1. Listen to the corresponding message either live or at www.waipunachapel.com. Or you can pick up a CD from church. 2. Pray and ask God for insight as you do your personal study. 3. Answer the questions as well as you can. Don’t look for the only “right answer”, answer what you think and what the Lord brings to your mind 4. Read Ephesians 2 Opening Discussion: Describe a time when you chose the wrong direction, whether it was driving, in a relationship or some other situation. Read Ephesians 2:1-7: We live in a world were human beings left to themselves, not only choose the wrong direction, but remain cheerfully confident that it is in fact the right one. What forces lure or compel us to go in the wrong direction spiritually (vs:1-2) What reasons have you heard people give for the direction they’re going in their life? What according to Paul characterizes people who are going in the wrong direction (vs:3)? If the problem is that settled and habitual behavior of the whole human race leads people towards death – the destruction of their humanness- the answer provided by God is a way through death and into a new life entirely. What has God done for us to get us on the right road?

Why does God love us so much? How did your own “change in direction” through Christ come about? Share your story with the group. God made us alive and raise us up in Christ (vs4-6) What does verse 7 say God desires to be accomplish by this? Read Ephesians 2:8-10. What is the means of our salvation (vs 8-9)? The gospel of Jesus Christ is all about grace. It gives life to the dead. It is God’s free, undeserved gift. But people think they can earn their salvation by doing good works. Do you ever feel that you need to earn God’s favor or us? If so, why do you think it’s hard to accept his grace as a free gift? Why did God save us (vs10)? The “good works” which Paul mentions in vs10 are not the “works of the law” (see Romans 3:20) which marked people as members of the Jewish community. The “good works” are the way of the Christian life. What are some of those “good works” for which God created us? How do you respond to the idea that you are God’s artistic creation? Pray together.
