Problem:Long term travellers, particularly occupational travellers,

underuse personal protective measures.Underuse of personal protective measures is caused by

e.g. concern about the safety of permethrin impregnated materialsand DEET, the smell of the DEET, sticky feeling of the DEET lotion,

and concern on the effectiveness of DEET

Main problems addressed

Problem 1:

Efficacy and lifetime of current bio-repellent textiles is too short. Novel release concepts will be elaborated.

Problem 2:

Current mosquito repellents are harmful, resistance to conventional repellents increases.

Novel natural repellents for mosquitoes will be

exploited.
