ROUND & ABOUT 33 Life In Cheshire Where life gets interesting. I f there is any other hotel in Manchester that is better than the Lowry Hotel on Salford Quays, please let me know! We were cordially invited to stay at the 5 star Lowry overnight and sample a 3 course meal from the menu in the restaurant back in March and all I have to say is ‘‘Wow’’. Upon arrival at the hotel, the concierge immediately began helping with our luggage from the car and escorted us to the hotel reception. With high ceilings, an open plan staircase and glass windows all round, I knew this was a place of high standards and service from the outset. From the reception desk the clerk asked if we had stayed at the hotel before and because we hadn’t she then walked from behind the counter and led us up to our room which was on the 5th floor of this magnificent hotel. What we saw when we got into the room left me smiling so wide I probably looked like the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland (well, I am from Cheshire). The bed was made to sleep at least 3 people, a walk-in wardrobe, floor to ceiling windows which overlooked he canal outside and a bath that all the players in a football team could fit in (not wonder the footballers stay here!). After explaining all the gadgets and gismos the room offered, the clerk told us to enjoy our stay and then left us to explore the room. The hotel also offers a spa and health club which is available to all guests for an additional cost, but not being the healthiest of people we decided to forego this and headed into the city centre which is just a short stroll over the bridge outside the hotel. Manchester is a fantastic place with loads of shops, café bars, restaurants and pubs, but we were booked in at the restaurant for 7.30pm and didn’t want to lose our table, because this restaurant is one of the best in Manchester and is always busy with footballers, wags and celebrities, so we headed back to the hotel to shower and change into our evening attire. In the restaurant we were shown to our table by Fatih who is one of the head waiters and if you ever come to this place and have him look after you, then you’ve been lucky. For the starter I ordered the Linguini in White Clam Sauce and Melissa ordered the Spaghetti Lobster with a bottle of wine on ice. Both meals were cooked to perfection and a taste of things to come. The mains came next, and being a manly man, I ordered the Filet de Beouf while Melissa ordered the Tuna Steak. Words cannot describe the taste of these mains, but let me just say, nothing will ever compare to this, and I’ve probably ruined ever enjoying a fillet again because I will always be comparing it to this one. As the night wore on, the activities of the day had caught up with us, so more reluctant than usual to leave this fine establishment, we knew we didn’t have to venture outside, our room was already turned down for the evening and waiting for us. A great night’s sleep was had by both of us in the luxurious bed and in the morning, that silly state of depression came over us when we knew we had to leave! In our opinion, this hotel is worthy of the 5 star rating that has been awarded and would recommend it to anyone visiting Manchester, as long as your wallet can afford it. ROUND & ABOUT

33Life In CheshireWhere life gets interesting.

If there is any other hotel in Manchester that is better than the Lowry Hotel on Salford Quays, please let me know! We were

cordially invited to stay at the 5 star Lowry overnight and sample a 3 course meal from the menu in the restaurant back in March and all I have to say is ‘‘Wow’’.
