the book “Lilac Girls,” by Martha Hall Kelly.

Caroline Ferriday has her hands full with her post at the French

consulate and a new love on the horizon. An ocean away from

Caroline, Kasia Kuzmerick, a Polish teenager, senses her carefree

youth disappearing as she is drawn deeper into her role as courier

for the underground resistance movement. For the ambitious

young German doctor, Herta Oberheuser, an ad for a government

medical position seems her ticket out of a desolate life. The lives

of these three women are set on a collision course when the

unthinkable happens and Kasia is sent to Ravensbrück, the

notorious Nazi concentration camp for women. Their stories cross

continents—from New York to Paris,

Germany, and Poland—as Caroline and Kasia

strive to bring justice to those whom history

has forgotten.

YOUNG ADULT BOOK CLUB

The Bayou Vista Book Club for Young Adults will meet on

September 27th at 5:30 P.M. to discuss the book “Walk On Earth A Stranger,” by Rae Carson.

Lee Westfall has a strong, loving family. She has a home she loves

and a loyal steed. She has a best friend—who might want to be

something more. She also has a secret. Lee can sense gold in the

world around her. Veins deep in the earth. Small nuggets in a

stream. Even gold dust caught underneath a fingernail. She has

kept her family safe and able to buy provisions, even through the

harshest winters. But what would someone do to control a girl

with that kind of power? A person might murder for it. When

everything Lee holds dear is ripped away, she flees

west to California—where gold has just been

discovered. Perhaps this will be the one place a

magical girl can be herself. If she survives

the journey.

YOUNG READERS BOOK CLUB The Berwick Branch Book Club for Young Adults will meet on Friday,

September 28th at 4:00 P.M. We will be discussing the book

“Hello Universe,” by Erin Entrada Kelly.

In one day, four lives weave together in unexpected ways. Virgil

Salinas is shy and kindhearted and feels out of place in his loud and

boisterous family. Valencia Somerset, who is deaf, is smart, brave,

and secretly lonely, and loves everything about nature. Kaori Tanaka

is a self-proclaimed psychic, whose little sister Gen is always

following her around. And Chet Bullens wishes the weird kids would

just act normal so that he can concentrate on basketball. They

aren’t friends at least not until Chet pulls a prank

that traps Virgil and his pet guinea pig at the bottom

of a well. This disaster leads Kaori, Gen, and

Valencia on an epic quest to find the missing Virgil.

Through luck, smarts, bravery, and a little help from

the universe, a rescue is performed.

intersect? Jon Teel is the story of abuse and evil,

South Louisiana.

We are sorry to announce that we are at capacity.

CENTERVILLE BRANCH

ADULT BOOK CLUB The Centerville Branch Adult Book Club will meet on Wednesday,

September 19th at 10:30 A.M. The title for discussion will be

“Come Sundown,” by Nora Roberts. The Bodine ranch and resort in western Montana is kept running by

Bodine Longbow with the help of a large staff, including new hire

Callen Skinner. When a bartender leaves the resort late one night,

and Bo and Cal discover her battered body in the snow, it is the

first sign that danger lurks in the mountains that surround them.

The police suspect Cal, but Bo finds herself trusting him―and

turning to him as another woman is murdered. When a Longbow

family member returns with a twisted story she

has to tell about the past―and the threat that

follows in her wake―will test the bonds of this

strong family, and thrust Bodine into a darkness

she could never have imagined.

For more information or if you are interested in

joining please call 337-836-1717.

PATTERSON BRANCH

ADULT BOOK CLUB

The Patterson Branch Adult Book Club will meet on Thursday,

September 20th at 5:30 P.M. The title for discussion will be

“After You,” by Jojo Moyes.

After the transformative six months Louisa Clark spent with Will

Traynor, she is struggling without him. When an accident forces Lou

to return home to her family, she ends up in a church basement with

the members of the Moving On support group, who share insights,

laughter, frustrations, and terrible cookies. They will also lead her

to Sam Fielding—the paramedic, the one man who might be able to

understand her. Then a figure from Will’s past appears and hijacks

all her plans, propelling her into a very different future. For Lou

Clark, life after Will Traynor means learning to fall in love again,

with all the risks that brings. Jojo Moyes gives us two

families, as real as our own, whose joys and sorrows will

touch you deeply, and where both changes and

surprises await.

For more information or if interested in joining please

call 985-395-2777 or stop by the library.

WEST END BRANCH

ADULT BOOK CLUB

The West End Branch Adult Book will meet on Tuesday,

September 18th at 4:30 P.M. We will be discussing the book,

“The Broken Road To Forever,” by Rhonda Dennis and L.K. Owen.

Author Rhonda Dennis will be joining us for a book

discussion and signing.

Brent and I overcame overwhelming odds. We struggled and fought

for our happily ever after, so why do I find myself knee deep in

laundry, bills, and ungraded papers years afterwards? Why is he

distant and more worried about football plays for

his high school team than our happiness? Where has

the spark gone? The broken road of life happened,

and it's painfully relentless. Is our journey one even

worth continuing? To better grasp our future, a

visit to our past is needed.

For more information or if you are interested in

joining please call 337-923-6205.

KID CORNER:

Every year outstanding books are chosen for

awards. This year the Bayou Vista Library gave this

award to an outstanding patron.

This Summer’s “Librarians Choice Award,” went to

Taylor Lodrigue. We are recognizing Taylor for all

of his hard work and dedication during this

Summer’s reading program.

Congratulations, Taylor!

Just a reminder that you may still sign up at your local library for

the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. This free program

allows parents the opportunity to share books every day with their

child. The goal is to read 1000 books before your child starts

kindergarten. Reading to or with your child, daily, helps them

develop the pre-reading skills necessary for them to be

successful readers in kindergarten. Families with babies and

children not yet enrolled in kindergarten are invited to come to the

library and register their children. Upon registration you will receive a reading packet complete with program

information, reading logs, bookmark, and incentives for the start of a fun reading journey. For more information,

contact your local branch library.
