National Vocational Qualifications

• Started late 1980’s, wide range of subjects

• Workplace competence based

• Five levels, level 1 most basic, level 5 most advanced

• Transferable awards

Information and Library Services

• Began 1995

• Three levels only - 2, 3, 4

• Oxford, Cambridge, RSA (OCR)

• OCR last registration July 2001, last completion July 2004

• Health Libraries Network, City and Guilds as awarding body 2003

• NVQs recognised in job profiles, salaries

City and Guilds

• New scheme started early 2003, last enrolment December 2010

• Two levels only - 2 and 3

• EDI scheme approved August 2010

Southern Counties Libraries Vocational Qualification Network

• Established October 2010

• New name better reflects multi-sector candidates and geography

• Approved as Centre by Education Development International (EDI) December 2010

• First candidates started April 2011

• Level 2 Certificate, 30 credits, 300 notional learning hours

• Level 3 Diploma, 45 credits, 450 notional learning hours

EDI: Electronic portfolio scheme

• E-portfolio has replaced C&G paper portfolio

• Forms link to evidence

• Standards similar to City and Guilds but updated

• Portfolio can be seen by assessor, verifier, and EDI Quality Advisor, Trevor Meakin

Training for Assessors and Verifiers

• Assessors / verifiers learn on the job• Training courses run by local providers e.g.

Colleges• Assessor / verifier portfolios to demonstrate

competence • A1, A2, V1 ( previously D32, D33, D34)• Decisions need to be countersigned by qualified

staff until training completed• Awards take three to six months to complete • Assessor / team meetings
