PTG Play-a-thon Fundraiser

Our second annual PTG Play-a-thon fundraiser is almost here!  We will kick off our Play-a-thon on Friday, November 4. We are still in need of donations to be used as prizes and incentives for the students. We are also needing volunteer help with various aspects of the Play-a-thon throughout November. If you are able to help or have any questions please contact, Mindy Gagne - dgagne2001@hotmail or PTG Volunteer Coordinator – Bree Hernandez [email protected].

Odyssey Student Pick-up and Drop-off Please remember that the bus pick-up and drop-off area is on the east side of the building, on S. Haven. Please do not park there during pick-up (2:25-2:55 PM) and drop-off (7:30-8:00AM) times. The ideal safe place to pick up and drop off your child when he/she is not riding the bus, is on the south side of the building, on Pacific. Parents, please remind your students to cross the streets at the crosswalk, and not to cross the street between buses.

Early Release FridaysOur School Board recently approved 12 early release Fridays. These dates and times were jointly agreed upon by SEA and District Leadership at the bargaining table to provide an interruption-free professional/peer development time while providing minimal disruption to families. Educators expressed a need for the time to work together uninterrupted in the school day to work on grade-level, building-level and district level directed initiatives. It is time for educators and the staff that support them to review what is working in their classrooms with their peers as well as for principals as educational leaders to have the undivided attention of staff in building wide initiatives. On early release Fridays, Libby students will be dismissed at 1:15 PM. These dates are:

September 30 January 13 March 24October 28 February 10 April 14November 18 February 24 April 28December 2 March 10 May 19

Human Growth and Development There are 2 new opt out forms for parents to sign if they choose to exclude their child from HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health curriculum.  Why 2 forms and not one?  Because the law is different for each curriculum topic, especially in regard to HIV/AIDS curriculum where "a student may be removed from HIV/AIDS prevention education if the student's parent or guardian, having attended one of the district presentations, objects in writing to such participation."  The forms are currently being printed in the Print Shop because they need to be processed in triplicate.   For now, please use the forms that are available on our district's updated HG&D website: http://www.spokaneschools.org/Page/32005 Submitted by Glenda Kohls

Annual Asbestos Notification:This is our annual notification that there is asbestos in our school. Please be assured that all the asbestos is either in a nonpublic area or is well encapsulated. It is the District’s intent that all asbestos materials are kept in a safe, well-maintained condition through a program of Periodic Surveillance and ongoing maintenance activities. WHY CHESS ?

Scientific studies prove that professional chess programs enhance academic performance and generally increase overall brain functions, including positive behavior. "Chess is the only activity for our youth where they are expected to sit quietly and think long thoughts.”
