  • Substation SCADA Integration Goals & Expectation's

    8

    • One Operating Model

    — Eliminate SCADA One-Line Displays

    — In addition to One Operator Console we wanted operators to have One Model to manage for Outages, Switching, Clearance Processes, & SCADA Control

    • Multiple Views of Substation

    — Needed the ability of seeing different views of substation for the different process (Outage mgt, SCADA Switching, Etc.)

    • Real-Time Display Editing

    — Needed the ability of editing SCADA Data in real-time so as to keep pace with business operations

  • Substation SCADA Integration Goals & Expectation's

    9

    • New Control Methods

    — Needed the ability of having new symbols that represent SCADA Commands – outside of normal control tool (right click feature)

    • Different Tags

    — Needed to have different method of representing Tags on equipment in Substations

    • Navigation Links

    — Requested the replacement of existing feature of “Sub Jump Buttons” from Legacy SCADA System

    — Required links to SCADA System’s Status Points & Alarm Summary’s

  • Substation SCADA Integration Goals & Expectation's

    10

    • General Cosmetic Adjustments

    — GIS Tweaks

    — Bigger and Smaller Symbols

    — Scaling in some stations

    — Layer Management

    — Operator Involvement

  • Substation SCADA Integration Lessons Learned

    20

    • OPEN MIND – Must be willing to change!!!

    — Struggled with combining SCADA and OMS display’s in general

    • Time to adjust Measurements

    — Allow plenty of time to have Operators adjust the stations

    • Retaining settings from Patch to Patch

    — Be sure to have solid process for keeping the settings when new patches are applied or copying to new environment’s

    • GIS/Substation Group Involvement

    — Must have GIS on board with dedicated help to make adjustments

    — Substations group may have to verify data or adjust mapping

    • PLENTY OF ORACLE INVOLEMENT!!!

    — Major Product Changes – SCADA Control, Digital Movement, Etc.

  • Wrap-up Discussion
