In this approach LEXIS is what we should focus on.

Lexis argues that language consists of CHUNKS which, when combined, produce continuous coherent text

1. Words: Car, table, etc.

2. Collocations: to commit an offence, to make a promise, etc.

3. Fixed expression: a- good afternoon b- would you mind …? and c- phrase book language

4. Semi-fixed expressions:

c. It sounds interesting/ boring/ tiring
