In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Page 3: Lewis Merle and Daniel Riley AS Media evaluation

Here is an example of Mixmag’s front cover (left) and then mine (Right). You can see all the points I stated above form these examples.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Page 5: Lewis Merle and Daniel Riley AS Media evaluation

Who would be the audience for your media product?

• My audience would predominantly be 20-35 year olds. This is because this age bracket is the age that is most involved with this music as they regularly go out to club and places where this music is played.

• Also it is this age group because they are the only ones who are working and earning enough to afford the equipment involved in making this music.

• I feel that my media product appealed to the middle upper class. This is because of the money involved in the music.

• This exclusive type of music attracted this type of social background because people in other areas of social background would not be associated with it.

Psychographic Profile:

• They are people who would rather go clubbing rather than a festival.

• They are concerned with the latest clothing trends.

• They are interested in the production of the music as well as the music itself for example the vinyl records etc.

• They are interested in the less commonly/ not mainstream know artist and DJs.

How did you attract/address your audience?

• I attracted the target audience by making the magazine appeal to my demographic groups in a number of ways.

• One way was the content such as the reviews on people who they would like and want to read about such as DJs.

• Other things I used to attract them was with the materialists to attract them with the product reviews of new equipment.

• I tried to reflect the conventions of a mainstream magazine of this style.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

• This media product has made me learn how to use programs such as Photoshop on the Apple Mac computers. I found these hard to grasp at first as I only have a PC at home and they have different running systems and ways of working programs on the computer.

• After a while though I found it easy to use and I found that in the end I was helping some other people to use the programs.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

• Looking back at my preliminary task I have found that I needed to use more in depth knowledge of the technology to produce a higher quality media product.

• I have found out the different codes and conventions of a typical House music magazine and applied these when trying to address my demographic audiences in my music magazine.

Contents page Page Spread Evaluation:

Page 12: Lewis Merle and Daniel Riley AS Media evaluation

• Colour: I have tried to Keep colour in convention with Mixmag’s magazines contents page. Using minimal colour and having the only colour on the page in the pictures.

• Text: I have tried to use retro style writing which brings people back to the older styles of producing the music and the roots such as vinyl's and scratching.

• I have tried again to keep in conventions with Mixmag by using the issue date of the magazine and the website on this page as well to try and get as much of the readers aware of the website as possible.

Double page spread evaluation:

Page 14: Lewis Merle and Daniel Riley AS Media evaluation

• Colour: I have used bright colours which is representative of Mixmag’s double page spreads. This also represents the clubbing scene as the House scene is associated with glow stick and luminous colours.

• Text: I have used electro looking style text for the title of the interview. This again is a convention for the style of music this is.

• I have used different shot with full length shots of me and other supposed artist/DJs.

Front cover analysis:

Page 16: Lewis Merle and Daniel Riley AS Media evaluation

• Colour: I have used bright colours again which is again a convention of this style of magazine print. I have also used a cut out picture of myself and put my head obstructing the masthead. This is a convention of this style of product because it shows that I am confident people would recognise this magazine if they saw it.

• Text: Again in this front cover I have used the convention of modern looking text which is representative of the house music scene.

• I have also made the text have a luminous red highlight around it. This it to make a connection to the bright colours used such as the glow sticks and luminous wear which is worn by clubbers in the house scene.
