About FSB

1881
FSB was established in 1881.Together with a modest work -force, company founder FranzSchneider produced antique-style brass cabinet fittings.
1920s
In the early 1920s, the first doorand window fittings appeared inthe FSB production program. The design of these years echoedthe modernism of the Bauhausera. Silver metal com po nentswere combined with black com-posite features.
1990s
Inspired by an international design workshop held in Brakelin 1986, FSB began engagingthe market with contemporarydesigns in an initiative dubbed“Tour d’Europe.” Throughoutthis initative FSB created designsuites with such renouned designers as Philippe Starck,Jasper Morrison, Richard Rogersand many others.
For the past two decades, FSBhas continued to work with Archi-tects and Designers to createhandles – each with their ownpersonality.
1950s
Beginning with in-house designerJohannes Potente in the 1950s,FSB created the first handleswhich exemplify minimalism, modernism and ergonomics. FSB is still known for the use ofthese design principles today.
Four of Potente’s lever de-signs have been included in thepermanent collection of the Mu-seum of Modern Art (MoMA).
2000s
FSB introduced a limited rangeof levers supplied in completelocksets to the Amercian designcommunity. The first catalogwas approximately 80 pages. Two later catalogs increasedFSB’s North American offeringto nearly 100 lever designs.
In 2007, FSB expanded theNorth American distributioncenter, moving it to Madison,CT, where the majority of prod-ucts are stocked in natural anodized aluminum and satinstainless steel. Stock items canbe shipped in 48 hours. All non-stock items can be shippedwithin two to eight weeks regard -less of the product type, finishor project size.
2008
FSB dramatically increased itsproduct range for North Amer -ica, and issued an expanded catalog of more than 500 pages.
This brochure gives an intro-duction to the breadth and styleof our entire product offering, which can be found in ourNorth American Manual. To request a manual, or view moredetailed information, go towww.fsbna.com.

Hinges
FSB introduces a new line ofhinges unique in their construc-tion, finish and performance.
FSB stainless steel two-knuckleand three-knuckle butt hingesutilize carbon steel and oil-impregnated sintered bronzebearings to minimize friction, thereby reducing wear andmaintenance. FSB stainlesssteel butt hinges may be sup-plied to simulate nearly all of our standard finishes, and aresupplied with low-profile button-tip finials, giving the protrudinghinge barrel an elegant, cleanlook.
For designers seeking the ab-solute in minimal design, FSBoffers a new range of concealedhinges without protruding bar-rels. FSB concealed hinges arethree-way adjustable, reducingpossible misalignment during installation as well as allowingfor post-installation adjustments.
Sliding Door Hardware
Building owners are demandingmore efficient use of space.Consequently, architects and designers are utilizing manymore sliding and pocket doors.
In recognition of this trendFSB has developed an entirerange of flush mounted trim forpassage, privacy and entry applications. We demonstrateour penchant for divising aesthetically pleasing technicalsolutions by offering the mar-ket’s first flush pulls with springloaded covers, as picturedabove.
A complete overview of theseproducts is provided in the“Sliding Door Hardware” section.
Bronze
There is an increase in an “oldmeets new aesthetic” in whichdesigners are combining tradi-tional finishes with more mini-mal and modern design. Foryears, FSB has offered ten ofour best selling handles in solidbrass, either polished or oxidiz edto give them varying degrees ofantiquing to suit the designers’needs.
FSB now introduces Bronzeas a new material for our leverhandles and accessories. Thespecial appeal of bronze is thepatina that develops on its sur-face. In the course of daily use, polished bronze parts darkennaturally, becoming more distin-guished with time.
We have created a completesection titled “Brass and BronzeProducts” to cover all the pro ducts we offer in these two exceptional base materials. We offer eight bronze handles andten brass handles for projectsthat may benefit from this “oldmeets new” aesthetic. All brassand bronze products can be oxidized to varying degrees ofdarkness, depending on “themood” a designer would like tocreate.
Glass Door Hardware
Creating more open spaces has become a cornerstone ofmodern architecture. Utilizinglarge pieces of glass, whetherfor windows, doors, or walls, facilitates this objective.
FSB has broadened its glassdoor program to include locksand hinges for swinging glassdoors as well as exposed rollinggears for sliding glass doors. These products can be found inthe section “Door Pulls andGlass Door Hardware”.

Four Rules of Good GripIn answer to the question ofwhat constitutes the handle of handles, we would invite thequestioner to, literally, try his orher hand and apply the “FourRules of Good Grip”. It is this sort of approach thatstrikes a chord with the enlight -ened customer.
Thumb guide
Forefinger furrow
The thumb is always looking fora sense of direction. There is evidence of this on even the earliest man made implements.A great number of hand heldobjects feature channeling forthe thumb of one sort or another.
The forefinger is likewise in onthe orienteering process. It actsas a pilot, paving the way for therest of the hand to follow. We have located recesses forthe forefinger on any number ofartifacts.
Once the thumb and forefingerhave finished their reconnais-sance work, the hand as a wholegoes into action. The palm of the hand needs tobe well suppor ted at this point ifsufficient leverage is to be gen-erated.
The hand does not like clutch ingat thin air and is only happywhen it can roundly envelop. This is reflected in the waypeople roll tactile objects aboutin their hands.

Common to elementally geomet-rical door handles is the questto relate to the door in formalterms. Architect Peter Bastian, was after more, though: hewanted his handle to be a wor-thy accoutrement for largedoors while also striving for awell-nigh doctrinaire degree ofgeometrical reductionism andabstraction.
FSB’s production specialistsensured his draft was adoptedfor mass production to the veryletter. The upshot is a door leverproduced to the highest degreeof accuracy and having a squarecross-section that offers thehand its bulky gripping volumewith great gravitas.

There’s no shortage of wedge-shaped lever handles around.Virtually every maker features avariation on this theme in theirrepertoire. This design may originally have been ProfessorBurchartz’s.

It isn’t known who came up withthe basic form for the FSB 1015model. We suspect that the design was thought up in the1930s at a company called wehag.
The version by Johannes Potente is a very clean-lined affair that is particularly soughtafter in the Netherlands, andhas been for the past forty yearsor more.

In its first grey-series manualpublished in 1990, FSB pre-sented a lever handle datingback to the 1920s: the FSB1076 model has since becomethe most-copied lever handle ofthe past century.
The version shown here, FSB1016, is a more closed-offcounterpart to it.

The FSB 1020 model is theclearest embodiment of the“good form” of the 1950s. Thisis a lever handle that flourishesby dint of the organic flow of itsmoulded-to-the-hand designand because it somehow lookssymmetrical without actually be-ing so. Johannes Potente’s in-tention with this design was toprovide a dynamic counterpointto the linearity of doors.
FSB 1020 is one of four mod-els designed by Johannes Potente that, in the summer of1998, were added to the per-manent collection at the MoMAin New York.

Catalogue No. 6 published bythe S. A. Loevy bronzeware fac-tory in the 1930s includes half adozen door fittings by Rachlis,Grenander, Behrens, Wagenfeldand Paul in which a roundshank is combined with a flatgrip section. More recently, inthe 1990s, the Spanish desig -ner Miguel Milà re-interpretedthese elements in the FSB 1126model.
With the model shown herewe have modified Milà’s signa-ture somewhat so as to revertmore closely to the original“Thirties” design elements.

In the 1950s, the Swiss archi-tect, sculptor and designer MaxBill got together with Ernst Moeckel to fashion a door handle for the new Ulm DesignCollege building that drew onthe handles common on railwaycarriage doors in Switzerlandand has made design history asthe “Ulm handle”.
It was a handle that in turn in-spired Johannes Potente to pro-duce FSB model 1023, whichfor over thirty years has servedas an alternative to the usual U-shaped models.

FSB 1025 is the key model inthe “FSB Featherlight” productseries.
Its design terminology is plainto see. An in-line grip is joinedto the point of pivot on theshank. The handle sports across-section in the form of adroplet. With its no-frills looks, this is a design that offers itsservices humbly and yet ele-gantly.
What really brings FSB 1025to life is the way it appears tocapture the light along itsedges. The interaction betweenlight and shade heightens thehandle’s sense of slenderness.

The FSB 1027 model is a stockitem in the trade. It is rather disparagingly referred to as the“shoe horn” model. The under-lying design is the brainchild ofProfessor Max Burchartz. Thehandle lies extremely snugly inthe hand and unobtrusivenessis its watchword.
The FSB version of the “shoehorn” was de signed by JohannesPotente.

The FSB 1028 design is themost ornate of the handles inthe “FSB Featherlight” range. Itis a variation on the terminologyused in the FSB 1025 model, yet one that does not neglectthe ergonomic factor.
This is a design that catchesthe eye and is just as good tohold. The undular styling of thegrip section is both visuallystriking and a stimulating expe-rience for the hand. It’s as ele-gant a silver embellishment asyou could ever hope to see on a door and, almost as an after-thought, it also serves to operatethe door.

The FSB 1029 design brings amoulded-to-the-hand dimensionto the “FSB Featherlight” series.
We only apply the term “mould-ed -to-the-hand” to models thatmeet our “four rules of goodgrip” criteria to the letter. By using just a few more grams ofaluminum, Hartmut Weise hasmanaged to modify the teardropmotif in such a way that thumband forefinger are accommodat-ed and the palm of the hand hasample bulk to grasp hold of.

In the autumn of 1996, Düssel-dorf-based interior designerHeike Falkenberg asked FSB torecreate an old handle designfor a renovation job she was in-volved in. Using the sketch shesubmitted, FSB’s developmentdepartment cut a demonstrationmodel out of the FSB 1076 handle, reducing the circulartube to a more minimal flat grip, called FSB 1035.
In response to the new Germanfire code requirements, FSB hasnow made this popular handleavailable with a return to thedoor.

Lever handle model FSB 1034was the first major item designedby Johannes Potente. It datesfrom 1952. Once the copyrightlapsed, it was imitated by themillions throughout the world. It even had to suffer being re-modelled in grey plastic – thatwas back in the days beforeplastic went technicolor.
It is a model that unwittinglyanticipates the “four rules ofgood grip” drawn up much laterby Otl Aicher and FSB in thatthumb rest, forefinger furrow, support for the ball of thethumb, and gripping substanceare all in place.

In the autumn of 1996, Düssel-dorf-based interior designerHeike Falkenberg asked FSB torecreate an old handle designfor a renovation job she was in-volved in. Using the sketch shesubmitted, FSB’s developmentdepartment cut a demonstrationmodel out of the FSB 1076 handle, reducing the circulartube to a more minimal flat grip.
The prototype looked so goodthat, together with the designer,we spontaneously decided tomarket our gripping idea. Thedesign was so rapturously re-ceived in the marketplace, wehave extended this cross sectionto window and pull handles.

Lever handle model FSB 1051has come to epitomise FSB. Itwas dubbed the “SchneiderHandle” (the “S” in FSB) virtu-ally from the moment it cameinto being in the mid-1950s. We can only surmise as to whythis model became JohannesPotente’s supreme creation anda market leader in the 1960s.Maybe it’s all down to the har-mony it exudes and its mould-ed-to-the-hand credentials.
FSB 1051 is one of four mod-els designed by Johannes Potente that, in the summer of1998, were added to the per-manent collection at the MoMAin New York.

Lever handle model FSB 1057is the work of Munich-based designer Jan Roth. Singularlyunimpressed by the modelsthen on sale, he decided to de-sign a handle of his own for hisdoors. After the first casting, hetook the polished unfinishedparts home with him and dulyfitted them to the doors there(which is where they can still befound).
The FSB 1057 model by JanRoth nestles snugly in the handand is a handle that women inparticular often tend to fall foron the spot.

FSB 1058 was Johannes Potente’s favorite model. It is notknown why, a mere two yearsafter designing FSB 1051, hissupreme creation, he followedup with this redesign. FSB 1058conspicuously does away withthe triangular styling over thepivotal axis. The upshot is an elegant design with a beauty totake hold of.

A key design feature in FSB1063 is the circumferentialgroove that divides the “han-dling” section of the fitting fromthe “works”, i. e. the shank andbearing. We have now joinedforces with the Ingenhoven of-fice to systematically extend theconcept by adding applicationsin wood (wenge and oak) anddark grey plastic.
For those designers who wouldlike to add color to their project, this handle can be suppliedwith white, red or black Corian®

The design of FSB 1064 wasvery much market-driven. A female admirer of the handlecollection by Nicholas Grimshaw(cf. FSB 1069) tentatively en-quired whether his window-han-dle design could be reconceivedas lever handle hardware onnarrow escutcheon plates. Ittranspired that this was indeedpossible with little technical input.
Nicholas Grimshaw had nooption but to go along with thisrejigging of his design notions.

Hadi Teherani breaks with tradi-tional thinking in the FSB 1183.
Hadi Teherani has radicallyreduced the diversity of handlemodels intended for use ondoors with narrow frames. Hedelivers the function of a crank -ed lever handle, while avertingthe danger of a users thumb hitting the frame, by shifting thehandle’s point of rotation left-wards.
Hadi Teherani’s model for European fire doors sports asimilarly radical return to thedoor: he simply takes a third ofthe grip section and attaches itto same at right angles.

The 1920s gave rise to threeclassic lever handles: the archi-tect Mallet-Stevens mitred twosections of tubing together: FSB1076 – page 42. LudwigWittgenstein bent a brass tubethrough 90 degrees: FSB 1147– page 63. Messrs Gropius andMeyer married an angled pieceof square-section material to agrip that Alessandro Mendinisubtly refined: FSB 1102 – page 51.
But we still don’t know todaywho it was that picked up a sawand “liberated” FSB 1147 fromits semicircular tip: the upshotbeing FSB 1075.

The architect Robert Mallet-Stevens (1886 –1945) designedseveral residential buildings inParis in the 1920s. It is likely tohave been he who hit upon theidea of splitting a round tube intwo and mitering the ends backtogether again at right angles.
The design is now known asthe “Frankfurt model”. There’sa simple reason for this beingso. The handle was rediscov-ered when the Architecture Mu-seum was built and proceededto take the market by storm.

FSB 1078 was created at the instigation of Christoph Ingen-hoven, who was thrilled by thematerial AluGrey as soon as heset eyes on it and was of theopinion that this innovative material development ought also to find expression in a new– “classic” – lever handle de-sign. Acting as role model wasthat quintessential “classic”,FSB 1076, which was subjectedto a complete re-interpretationas regards both the miteringand the grip section.
What’s so especially pleasingabout this model is the formaltransition from the round shankto a grip section that is very narrow at the top and bottom.

Exactly who invented the tubulardesign has been the subject ofmuch conjecture. Most proba-bly it was some blacksmith wayback when hammering steeltubing into the shape of a han-dle on their anvil. The phrase“stable door handle” has longbeen common parlance – theend bent back towards the doorwas presumably intended toprevent bridles from snagging.Having served the animal worldwell, the handle experienced aglobal comeback in a myriad ofmaterials and countless jazzycolors a century later.

The notion of combining metaland wood in a lever handle tookto the streets, as it were, in theearly Eighties.
For FSB, Johannes Potenteconceived a solid metal shaftwith a highly tactile tubularbeech grip in light and dark versions. This unorthodox serieswas a great success and has remained a consistent seller. The FSB program would be in-conceivable without it.

Helmut Jahn and Yorgo Lykouriacame to lever handle design without any preconceptionswhatsoever: they freed theirminds of the constraints of in-dustrial production processes, which were characteristic of thetubular designs of Modernism inparticular, and looked out for aform that, while it can be pro-duced by machines, ergonomi-cally corresponds to humangripping needs in a special way.
The upshot is a formally dis -tinctive lever handle re-interpre-tation that is a genuine innova-tion of the moulded-to-the-handconcept.

Materials always figure centrallyfor Frankfurt-based architectProf. Christoph Mäckler. It cameas no surprise, therefore, thathe earmarked FSB’s new “Alu-Grey" material for his lever han-dle collection.
Reworking the form and size ofthe lever handle simultaneouslygave it the technical wherewithalfor application as heavy-dutyhardware fitted with FSB’s AGLcompensating bearing or in a fire safety variant. Lever handle1106 was the result.

FSB’s in-house designer HartmutWeise was wondering what it isthat gives the “Frankfurt Model”(FSB 1076) and “Wittgenstein’sHandle” models their particularappeal. At some point he jotteddown the words “unpretentiouspresence”. He then determinedto offer the market a sober de-sign that was at the very leaston a par with them. The form of lever handle FSB1144 is graced by being just aspleasing to the eye as to thehand. Designer Jasper Morrisonlets our eyes know that this doorhandle is a hand tool for operat-ing doors. Said eyes promptlyrelax and a hand takes over: thethumb falls into place, the fore-finger finds its furrow; the handcloses its grip and finds plentyto grip hold of.
This is precisely what theFour-Point Guide to Good Gripdrawn up by Otl Aicher and ourselves demands.

In the early 1990s, FSB felt thetime had come to give the plainround styling of the stable-doorhandle a going over. The shankwas conically extended and asemicircular tip was added tothe bent end; two subtle littlechanges that have given the revamped FSB 1146 model acharacter all of its own.
Inevitably, the inevitable hap-pened and this model, too, hassuffered no end of imitations.

The FSB logo echoes a leverhandle designed by the Austrianphilosopher Ludwig Wittgensteinin the mid-1920s in Vienna. This is the original upon whichall similar lever handle formsare based. By adding a conicalshank and spherical tip we aimed to set ourselves apartfrom the many other variants ofthis lever handle on the market– and, of course, to render ourcorporate logo “grippable” inthe truest sense of the word.

Works design FSB 1160 recre-ates the “dynamic goldengrowth spiral” in the form of around cross-section, with thelever handle likewise taperingfrom the shank to the end of thehandle in conformance with therules of the golden section.
This narrowing heightens themomentum of the natural curve. The design is restrained, goodto hold and features direction-of-motion styling.

Berlin-based architect HansKollhoff devised a handle designfor his projects that consciouslyabsorbs design elements fromthe 1930s. His uncluttered doorhandles, window handles andwindow fasteners have beenadopted as authentic interpreta-tions by the market. This partic-ular lever handle derives specialquality and authenticity fromthe material bronze, most no-tably in the artificially aged vari-ant shown in the “Brass andBronze Products” section.

FSB lever handle 1171 owes itsexistence to a “crazy notion”hatched in FSB’s tool-makingshop. Back in the 1930s and1940s, FSB had made a leverhandle that entered design his-tory as the “nickel-horn han-dle”. It combined nickel platingwith a black horn grip.
It was in 1992 that FSB’s tool-makers set about recreating thisclassic design in tubular stain-less steel using leading-edgetechnology. Their efforts led to a highly marketable design inmodern materials.

The trumpet-shaped variant instainless steel and aluminumserves as an alternative to theclassic FSB 1147 design, whichdraws on a model authored bythe philosopher Ludwig Wittgen-stein.

The design of FSB 1176 is basedon an older FSB model. Theshank and tip of this lever handlewere originally made of rolledsteel, which later gave way toaluminum, while the grip itselfwas a chunky affair made ofblack plastic. The toolmakers atFSB succeed ed in fashioningthis familiar form out of stainlesssteel tubing. Producing the moldsfor the aluminum variant wasmuch more straightforward.

Billings Jackson defined this design by creating a comfort-able volume for a tactile leverhandle with simple lines of bothflat and curved surfaces.
The flat front surface, derivedfrom a knob design of the 1940’s,gives a generous surface for thethumb and palm to land andthe curved back gives a volumefor the fingers to wrap around. The sculpted indent in the frontface locates the thumb printand a cut away in the back givespace for the index finger toeasily rest while gripping.

Vienna based architects StuartVeech and Mascha Veech-Kosmatschof are known for theirscenographic rooms, environ-ments, and installations domi-nated by organic lines. Often, these evolve to be flexible, mov-able structures with interactiveinterior and exterior spaces en-veloped by changeable mem-branes.
Both the form and functionaloptions of these entities recallutopian designs of early Mod-ernism such as those by Sovietarchitect Georgi Krutikov, whodesigned a flying city made upof floating, dynamic bodies inthe 1920s in which the housingdoubled up as means of loco-motion and was streamlined asa result.

Like their avant-garde paragonsfrom the early modernist period, both designers thrive on work-ing at the cusp between realityand virtuality. It was only logical, then, that their motion-rich han-dle duo should be developedwith the aid of leading-edgecomputer software called “Computational Fluid Dynamics”that is generally used to simu-late the flow behaviour of liquidsand gases or, indeed, of shoalsof fish. The software’s maritimeconnotations may explain whythese astoundingly haptic alu-minium handles resemble ob-jects polished smooth by theocean – fluid, flexible, dynamicand full of organic verve.

A modern, clean-lined formalvocabulary is the trademark ofBerlin architects Ivan Reimannand Gesine Weinmiller. Theychampion elemental forms, lovereduction and eschew the will toover-design.
The handle duo they havecome up with encapsulates thisapproach: two angular bodies ofstainless steel sporting elementalgeometrical forms give rise to athree-dimensional pattern whosesevere elegance derives fromthe visual interplay of trapezeand rectangle and of line andplane.

The short shank of one handleprotrudes from the door as anupright rectangle, that of theother as a flat rectangle. Thereis the same perceptual interplaywhen the grip sections areviewed front-on. While onemodel presents itself to the ob-server flat-on to highlight thetrapezoidal styling of its shank, its counterpart is a horizontalblock that has seemingly under-gone planar elongation.
Escutcheon plates cut fromsolid material reinforce the emblematic effect of these elemental forms.

Stuttgart architect duo Stefanieand Martin Naumann set abouttheir challenge in a soberlypragmatic vein: “Resisting theurge to be showy, we have opt-ed for a very straightforwardpath after a long, hard tussle. We have admittedly riskedtreading where others havetrodden before, but there’s notnecessarily anything wrong inthat.”
There’s certainly nothingwrong with their handle duo, whose archaic simplicity andpurist linearity offer “no curva-ture, no caressing of the hand,no add-ons.” Forming the pointof departure are the varying se-quences of movements involvedin operating doors: “Doors havetwo sides and each is different.

One side pulls toward you whileyou have to shove the other oneaway. On one side you have touse your own hand as a brakewhile on the other you have tofirmly take hold.” The designerduo have drawn the followingformal consequences fromthese push/pull constraints:while they appeal similar, theycan be told apart by design de-tails indicative of the differentways in which handles are tak-en hold of. The handle withwhich a door is pushed openfeatures a clearly visible “thumbrest”, while the handle used topull a door open has been givena “forefinger furrow,” in line withour “four rules of good grip.”

The idea behind the design bySpanish architects Maximià Torruella and Patricio Martinezis that of a reversible figure: Aquick twist through 90 degreestransforms one handle design –a flat steel band bent to form alever – into two different handles, depending on whether the bandis fitted horizontally or verticallyrelative to the shank. The shankis visible as a steel cylinder witha circular top in the horizontalvariant, thus very much focusingattention on the handle’s pointof rotation. In its vertical counter-part, the cylinder is concealedby the steel band and doublesup as a means of support.

The way the designers play withfront and top views really works, and the socket screws merelyserve to heighten the design’shi-tech appeal.
This very original Spanishhandle duo affords architectsgreat stylistic latitude. In the private sphere they can usethem to indicate the outside and inside of a space; in publicbuildings with a large number ofadjoining doors, the two modelscan be fitted alternatingly tocreate a rhythmic relief-like pattern that injects vibrancy into long corridors.

FSB supplies doorknobs as fe-males com plete with a separateFSB Stabil-spindle.
To assemble, first construct amale handle from the spindleand one of the female parts, carefully inserting the pin-typescrew supplied with our straightspindles through the appropriateborehole. The pin-type screwpasses through the neck of theknob and locates into the spindle.
For the male knob to be cor-rectly as sem bled it is generallyneces sary for the head of thepin-type screw to lie flush withthe outer surface of the neck ofthe knob.
Thereafter, ensure that thespring plate is facing out, towardthe lead ing edge of the door, toreceive the punch-type setscrews.
Female knob handles may befitted to rotate in a plate or rosefor single side only using thecustomized FSB half-spindle.

Introduction North American Trim
100
One of FSB’s best attributes isthe ability to combine almostevery lever with almost everyrose and escutcheon plate.
In the “Lockset Program”Section, we outline the elevenmost common trim combinations. However, there are situationswhere it is possible to combineFSB trim in ways which we havenot described. In addition, it ispossible to use many of our trimdesigns on European mortise ormulti-point locks made by othermanufacturers.
We have seperated the trim designs into two categories, NorthAmerican and European trim. While most of our illustrations in both sections are shown inmillimeters, we have providedthe measurement in incheswhere possible.
All trim shown in the NorthAmerican trim sub-section isstocked in our North Americandistribution facility in naturalcolor anodized aluminum andsatin stainless steel. We indicatethe stock status on the overviewpages and when each item isshown in detail.
Generally, our North Americantrim can not be combined withother manufacturer’s locks.

FSB has built coil springs intothe sub-roses to return handlesto the horizontal position. FSBroses with positive mechanismsare ideal for the job of modern-izing doors if, for instance, re -placing the old locks would betoo laborious or in a situation inwhich the lock still functions wellbut the lock spring no longerholds the handle in position
properly, causing it to developunsightly “sag”. The restoring force in the springis sufficient to keep even solidlever handles of considerableweight – e.g. those made ofbrass or bronze – lastingly inposition.
The rose’s metal caps are sup-port ed on a glass-fibre-rein-forced base that features twolugs in the fastening area. A positive mechanism is builtinto the base. The roses areused in pairs, with a righthand(green cover) and a lefthand(red cover) version which arethrough-bolted. Restoration ofthe carrier plate is ensured by
means of coil springs and is in-fallible as a result. The angle ofrotation is 25°. Fitted in conjunc-tion with a set of lever handles, this trim is indistinguishablefrom its standard counterpart.

Introduction European Trim
121
One of FSB’s best attributes isthe ability to combine almostevery lever with almost everyrose and escutcheon plate.
We have seperated the trimdesigns into two categories,North American and Europeantrim.
On the European trim overviewpage, we show all standard trimavailable from FSB. Only a fewof these products are stocked inour North American distributionfacility in natural color anodizedaluminum and satin stainlesssteel. We indicate stock statuson both on the overview page aswell as when each item isshown in detail.
Some of this trim can be modifi -ed to be compatible with ourNorth American locking systems, and some cannot. Consult withour technical department to determine the possibilities. Inaddition, most of these productsare compatible with a variety ofEuropean multi-point and mortise locks made by othermanufacturers.

The restoringforce in the spring is sufficientto keep even solid lever handlesof considerable weight – e.g.those made of brass or bronze –lastingly in position.
The rose’s metal caps are sup-port ed on a glass-fibre-rein-forced base that features twolugs in the fastening area. Apositive mechanism is built intothe base. The roses are used inpairs, with a righthand (greencover) and a lefthand (red cover)version which are through-bolted.Restoration of the carrier plateis ensured by means of coil
springs and is infallible as a result. The angle of rotation is25°. Fitted in conjunction with a set of lever handles, this trim is indistinguishable from itsstandard counterpart.

When ordering custom designs, please first send us a dimension-ed drawing. We will then furnishyou with a counter drawing forverification purposes togetherwith a price quote.
FSB supplies cut escutcheonplates and roses either with
· visible fixing on both sides
· visible or concealed fixing onone side (concealed fixing bymeans of weld-on threadedbushings that double as reinforcement lugs)
Architectural trends such asthose advocating that technicalor design elements be kept asflush as possible have reallydriven demand for cut es-cutcheon plates.
FSB utilizes leading-edge laserproduction technology allowingit to manufacture almost anyshape that can be representedas a vectorized file and is notlarger than 47" × 98" (1,200 ×2,500 mm) in size as a cut es-cutcheon plate.
You will find a selection ofminimalist eschutcheon platesand roses as a starting pointhere which, so we believe, adhere very closely to the trendreferenced above due to theirbeing 3 mm thick and 35 mmwide, but which are neverthelessmerely intended as initial sug-gestions. Escutcheon plates androses 3 mm thick are furnishedwith a spacer ring in solid stain-less steel. FSB additionally of-fers to supply cut escutcheonplates in custom designs.
Please note the technical in-formation on Page 129 when ordering.

1433 is the larger equivalent ofthe familiar 1432 eschutcheonplate by Hartmut Weise.
Especially developed for reno-vation work, it measures 55 mmacross and is hence ideal forcovering over traces of the pre-vious fitting.
Set off by a black base, thisslightly curving backplate forconcealed fixing to doors some -how appears to “hover” in space.
1433 cannot be combined withANSI mortise locks.
