FOREWORD

There are moments of highs and lows in our Christian life, times we are up and down, times we are encouraged and discouraged, times we fail ourselves and fail Him, times we doubt and times we get unreasonably angry. Why do these happen to us? Should these happen to us? Does it give glory to God who called us into His glory? We are affected sometimes by the things around us. Is it because of our lack of faith that our systems are sometimes down? Our God is an almighty, good and faithful God. He does not change. He is consistent. He moves forward not backward. He is not stagnant but He progresses and perfect in all His ways. Now, that we are in His Kingdom we should learn from our King. We should learn from our Lord God. We should imitate Him and be like Him. Our attitude should be like His attitude. Our ways should be like His ways. Our thoughts should be like His thoughts. His interests our interests. Our words should be like His words. Positive. Good. Moving forward. Progressing. We should emulate Him. Follow Him. Not doubtful. Not mediocre. Not backward. Not complacent. Not careless. Not faithless. Not dwell on lies but remain in the truth. Let us level up with God’s expectation.

Adam and Eve sinned.

GE 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” GE 3:2 The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; GE 3:3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’ ” GE 3:4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! GE 3:5 “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” GE 3:6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. GE 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. GE 3:8 They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. GE 3:9 Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” GE 3:10 He said, “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.” GE 3:11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” GE 3:12 The man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.” GE 3:13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Adam and Eve hid themselves when they heard God was coming. They knew they have disobeyed Him and they were ashamed. When we have done something wrong we try to cover or hide it from God. We do not confess it and repent. We hide from Him. We stop working for Him. We evade His word. We hid from fellowship. We move back. This should not be the case. John said, “As He is in the Light we walk in the light. If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all of our sins.” Jesus said, “Your faith has saved you, sin no more.” That is God’s way. We don’t cowardly hid from Him but stop sinning and move forward. Do not wait for God to ask, “Where are you?” Make it sure you are walking according to His will right now.

EX 14:5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his servants had a change of heart toward the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” EX 14:6 So he made his chariot ready and took his people with him; EX 14:7 and he took six hundred select chariots, and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them. EX 14:8 The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he chased after the sons of Israel as the sons of Israel were going out boldly. EX 14:9 Then the Egyptians chased after them with all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and they overtook them camping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon. EX 14:10 As Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel looked, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they became very frightened; so the sons of Israel cried out to the LORD. EX 14:11 Then they said to Moses, “Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt with us in this way, bringing us out of Egypt? EX 14:12 “Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” EX 14:13 But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. EX 14:14 “The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent.” EX 14:15 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward. EX 14:16 “As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land. EX 14:17 “As for Me, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. EX 14:18 “Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen.” EX 14:19 The angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them.

EX 14:20 So it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Thus the one did not come near the other all night. EX 14:21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night and turned the sea into dry land, so the waters were divided. EX 14:22 The sons of Israel went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. EX 14:23 Then the Egyptians took up the pursuit, and all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots and his horsemen went in after them into the midst of the sea. EX 14:24 At the morning watch, the LORD looked down on the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud and brought the army of the Egyptians into confusion. EX 14:25 He caused their chariot wheels to swerve, and He made them drive with difficulty; so the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from Israel, for the LORD is fighting for them against the Egyptians.” EX 14:26 Then the LORD said to Moses, “ Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen.”

EX 14:27 So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal state at daybreak, while the Egyptians were fleeing right into it; then the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. EX 14:28 The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even Pharaoh’s entire army that had gone into the sea after them; not even one of them remained. EX 14:29 But the sons of Israel walked on dry land through the midst of the sea, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. EX 14:30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. EX 14:31 When Israel saw the great power which the LORD had used against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in His servant Moses.

God has brought Israel out of Egypt through great signs and wonders before their eyes. They have seen the mighty hand of God at work in their midst. When Pharaoh realized that they were gone out of Egypt he mustered all his armies and forces and pursued them in the desert. Israel feared and grumbled. They did not trust the Lord. They should have realized God was working mightily His plan and promise to them but they looked with their physical eyes and moved by their physical senses. But God is consistent and unrelenting. He has a will and one mind to complete His purpose. He said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward.” And the rest was history, even Israel doubted God proved Himself holy and righteous before all the nations. He delivered them ultimately. Yes, we should be moving forward unhindered. We should not be derailed from our calling and task. We must be fervent doing God’s will and the Lord’s work. We should see and act with the eyes of God. Unchanging. Consistent. Sure. Moving forward.

Case no. 3Moses disobeyed the Lord.

NU 20:8 “Take the rod; and you and your brother Aaron assemble the congregation and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it may yield its water. You shall thus bring forth water for them out of the rock and let the congregation and their beasts drink.”

6

NU 20:9 So Moses took the rod from before the LORD, just as He had commanded him; NU 20:10 and Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly before the rock. And he said to them, “Listen now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?” NU 20:11 Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank. NU 20:12 But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.” NU 20:13 Those were the waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel contended with the LORD, and He proved Himself holy among them.

The Lord commanded Moses to gather Israel and in their presence speak to the rock so it may bring forth water for them to drink. Moses did not follow fully what the Lord has commanded to speak to the rock but in anger to the people he hit the rock twice and shown irreverence before the presence of God. Because of their unbelief none of them entered the promise land and only their children went through. There are times God’s commandments and words are explicit and clear but we do not fully obey it. We do our own way. As God’s servants we must show and give honor to God before His people by displaying faith and obedience. We must be careful to obey what God has commanded us and honor Him with great respect and reverence. He is our God. He is our Lord. He is our King. God is a good compassionate and merciful God but He is also a jealous God, a righteous impartial Judge and a consuming God.

Case no. 4Saul acted foolishly.

1SA 13:2 Now Saul chose for himself 3,000 men of Israel, of which 2,000 were with Saul in Michmash and in the hill country of Bethel, while 1,000 were with Jonathan at Gibeah of Benjamin. But he sent away the rest of the people, each to his tent.

1SA 13:3 Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. Then Saul blew the trumpet throughout the land, saying, “Let the Hebrews hear.” 1SA 13:4 All Israel heard the news that Saul had smitten the garrison of the Philistines, and also that Israel had become odious to the Philistines. The people were then summoned to Saul at Gilgal. 1SA 13:5 Now the Philistines assembled to fight with Israel, 30,000 chariots and 6,000 horsemen, and people like the sand which is on the seashore in abundance; and they came up and camped in Michmash, east of Beth-aven. 1SA 13:6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were hard-pressed), then the people hid themselves in caves, in thickets, in cliffs, in cellars, and in pits. 1SA 13:7 Also some of the Hebrews crossed the Jordan into the land of Gad and Gilead. But as for Saul, he was still in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. 1SA 13:8 Now he waited seven days, according to the appointed time set by Samuel, but Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattering from him. 1SA 13:9 So Saul said, “Bring to me the burnt offering and the peace offerings.” And he offered the burnt offering. 1SA 13:10 As soon as he finished offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him and to greet him. 1SA 13:11 But Samuel said, “What have you done?” And Saul said, “Because I saw that the people were scattering from me, and that you did not come within the appointed days, and that the Philistines were assembling at Michmash, 1SA 13:12 therefore I said, ‘Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not asked the favor of the LORD.’ So I forced myself and offered the burnt offering.” 1SA 13:13 Samuel said to Saul, “You have acted foolishly; you have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, for now the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. 1SA 13:14 “But now your kingdom shall not endure. The LORD has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has appointed him as ruler over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you.”

Saul feared that the Philistines would come and destroy them. He has not asked favor from the Lord and prophet Samuel has not arrived yet. So he forced himself to make a burnt offering to the Lord which was not allowed for him to do. This caused him to lose his kingdom. Saul rebelled again against the Lord in disobedience. The kingdom was given to David a man who was after God’s heart. Sometimes when troubles come we fear. In our fear we make mistakes. We make wrong decisions. We disobey God. We go ahead of God and try to make it through with our own ways. This won’t do any good for us. Let us wait upon the Lord. We don’t disobey or sin in the process but stand our ground and have faith in God. We, like David, seek after God’s heart.

Case no. 5Prophet Elijah hid in a cave.

1KI 19:1 Now Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.

8

Page 9: Level Up With God - JESUS CHRIST Church of Godjesuschristchurchofgod.weebly.com/.../4/7/2/1472830/lev…  · Web viewNot faithless. Not dwell on lies but remain in the truth. Let

1KI 19:2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and even more, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.” 1KI 19:3 And he was afraid and arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. 1KI 19:4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough; now, O LORD, take my life, for I am not better than my fathers.” 1KI 19:5 He lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and behold, there was an angel touching him, and he said to him, “Arise, eat.” 1KI 19:6 Then he looked and behold, there was at his head a bread cake baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again. 1KI 19:7 The angel of the LORD came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise, eat, because the journey is too great for you.” 1KI 19:8 So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God. 1KI 19:9 Then he came there to a cave and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1KI 19:10 He said, “I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”

It was after a great victory for Elijah that God showed He was with him and consumed his sacrifice before the 450 prophets of Baal and slew them, and that he run and hid himself in fear of Jezebel who was after his life. He asked the Lord to take his life and for 40 days and night he was at Mount Horeb fed by an angel. He hid in a cave and the Lord asked, “What are you doing here, Elijah.” The Lord asked this question twice and it seemed that Elijah had enough in his ministry. The Lord commanded him to go and anoint two kings and anoint his assistant Elisha as the next prophet after him. Sometimes the lowest part of our life comes after a great victory in the ministry- after a great deed of the Lord. We tend to relax or loose hold of the real experience and look to what is mundane and overcome by it. We soon forget how great things the Lord has done for us and lose touch. Doubt, fear, unfaithfulness sometimes creep in. And we find ourselves covering and dwelling in an unpleasant situation. God would ask us, “What are you doing there?” We must remain to what God has called us to do. At all cost. At all times.

CASE NO. 6Jonah became angry when Nineveh repented.

JNH 1:1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai saying, JNH 1:2 “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.”

9

JNH 1:3 But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. So he went down to Joppa, found a ship which was going to Tarshish, paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

JNH 3:4 Then Jonah began to go through the city one day’s walk; and he cried out and said, “Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” JNH 3:5 Then the people of Nineveh believed in God; and they called a fast and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least of them. JNH 3:6 When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe from him, covered himself with sackcloth and sat on the ashes. JNH 3:7 He issued a proclamation and it said, “In Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat or drink water. JNH 3:8 “But both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth; and let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from his wicked way and from the violence which is in his hands. JNH 3:9 “Who knows, God may turn and relent and withdraw His burning anger so that we will not perish.” JNH 3:10 When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it. JNH 4:1 But it greatly displeased Jonah and he became angry. JNH 4:2 He prayed to the LORD and said, “Please LORD, was not this what I said while I was still in my own country? Therefore in order to forestall this I fled to Tarshish, for I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, and one who relents concerning calamity. JNH 4:3 “Therefore now, O LORD, please take my life from me, for death is better to me than life.” JNH 4:4 The LORD said, “Do you have good reason to be angry?” JNH 4:5 Then Jonah went out from the city and sat east of it. There he made a shelter for himself and sat under it in the shade until he could see what would happen in the city. JNH 4:6 So the LORD God appointed a plant and it grew up over Jonah to be a shade over his head to deliver him from his discomfort. And Jonah was extremely happy about the plant. JNH 4:7 But God appointed a worm when dawn came the next day and it attacked the plant and it withered. JNH 4:8 When the sun came up God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah’s head so that he became faint and begged with all his soul to die, saying, “Death is better to me than life.” JNH 4:9 Then God said to Jonah, “Do you have good reason to be angry about the plant?” And he said, “I have good reason to be angry, even to death.” JNH 4:10 Then the LORD said, “You had compassion on the plant for which you did not work and which you did not cause to grow, which came up overnight and perished overnight. JNH 4:11 “Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know the difference between their right and left hand, as well as many animals?”

God commanded Jonah to preach repentance to Nineveh for its wickedness has reached up to heaven. Jonah run away but God pursued him. When all Nineveh repented Jonah got mad for he knew God was compassionate and merciful. He wanted to die. Jonah was the opposite of Elijah. Elijah obeyed the Lord and killed the prophets of Baal but later hid himself for fear of being killed. Jonah disobeyed God. But when God brought trouble to him Jonah obeyed. He was angry because he knew God will forgive Nineveh which God did when its king and the people repented. He was frustrated and angry because he did not have compassion on the people of Nineveh as God did. He was angry because they repented. There are times that we really become unreasonable before God. We get angry at the wrong times. God have compassion on people. He desires that all shall come to repentance and come to the knowledge of the truth but it is us who delay. It is us who disobey the great commandment. We should experience first correction from the Lord before we obey His commandment. Whenever God commands, we obey. When He says preach, we preach. The Lord is compassionate to all.

Case no.7The apostles doubted Jesus resurrected.

MK 16:9 [ Now after He had risen early on the first day of the week, He first appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons. MK 16:10 She went and reported to those who had been with Him, while they were mourning and weeping. MK 16:11 When they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they refused to believe it. MK 16:12 After that, He appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking along on their way to the country. MK 16:13 They went away and reported it to the others, but they did not believe them either. MK 16:14 Afterward He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table; and He reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen. MK 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. MK 16:16 “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

MT 28:16 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. MT 28:17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. MT 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. MT 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, MT 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

JN 20:24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. JN 20:25 So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” JN 20:26 After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus *came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” JN 20:27 Then He *said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” JN 20:28 Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” JN 20:29 Jesus *said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”

LK 24:13 And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem. LK 24:14 And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. LK 24:15 While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. LK 24:16 But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him.LK 24:17 And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they stood still, looking sad. LK 24:18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?”

LK 24:19 And He said to them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, LK 24:20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him. LK 24:21 “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened. LK 24:22 “But also some women among us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning, LK 24:23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive. LK 24:24 “Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.” LK 24:25 And He said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! LK 24:26 “Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?” LK 24:27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

The apostles were with Jesus in His last three years of His life on earth. Many times He predicted His death and resurrection and that the Scriptures must be fulfilled. After His death He showed Himself to Mary and others but some of the disciples did not believe them and even when Jesus was with them some doubted. He reprimanded them of their unbelief. In the midst of doubt of some Jesus was unperturbed and commanded them to preach the gospel to all creation. Our Lord again has shown His consistency and unchanging mission and goal- to bring eternal life to the world for which the Father has sent and called Him. He passed the mandate to His disciples- and to the church, to us. When God says something that He shall fulfill me must believe it. Whatever is written we believe and not doubt. Whenever He speaks to our hearts we believe in faith and obedience. Let not our flesh dictate our faith and our hearts but let the word of God rule our hearts and minds and souls. Let His Spirit lead us. We must level up into the thinking and interest of God. Let us not doubt our God for He said, “Behold, I am with you until the end of age.”

CONCLUSION

The Scriptures from Genesis to its last book the Revelation we can find how God worked and dealt with His children. There were times men of God were caught retreating, grumbling, fearing for their lives, hiding, crying out, doubting and not behaving as they should. After some great feats and works of God in their lives they

forgot His goodness and power and His great and awesome manifestations. But nonetheless God was there coaching them and asking, to Adam, “Where are you?”, to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me tell the Israelites to go forward?”, to Elijah in the cave twice the Lord asked, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”, to Jonah, “Do you have a good reason to be angry?”, to the apostles, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?”

Whenever God asks us a question we might be in the wrong place, in the wrong spiritual condition, in the wrong disposition and wrong behavior. Our God never wants us to fail. He never wants us to doubt Him. His desire is that we move forward in the right path and do marvelous things in His name giving Him the glory. Through our God we shall do valiantly and it is He who treads down against our enemies. He gives us the power in our legs to leap high. Wings to fly. Eyes to see afar. But if we enclose ourselves in fear, in faithlessness God cannot use us. For without faith it is impossible to please God. He is our Shield. Our Fortress. Our Tower. Our Rock. God moves forward. We His servants should step up.

Level up with God- with God’s expectation.

Walk in truth.

Working with Him and through Him.

Increasing in knowledge and obedience in Christ.

God does not change.

Move forward.
