Information for ParentsRAA, Lifetime Support Authority and the Government of South Australia believe road safety is an important life skill that should be taught from an early age. That is why we’ve developed the Street Smart Primary program, which provides a trained teacher to work with classroom teachers to instruct children in important road safety concepts.

Today your child has taken part in a Street Smart Primary road safety lesson with their class.

We’d like to encourage you to remember that road safety can, and should, be taught in your family home as well.

It’s easy to incorporate it into your everyday lives too. Even just talking about it on the drive to school or the walk to the bus stop every so often can make a big difference.

Children often look to celebrities and sporting heroes as their role models, but when it comes to road safety, the example set by their parents and carers is the most important.

The lessons your child learns about road safety will shape their behaviour now and in later years.

Unscramble the safety words, then draw a symbol to match the words.

Draw yourself in your outfit in the mirror

Buckle up!Many children don’t fit a seatbelt properly until they are at least 145cm tall.Have someone at school or at home measure you to see how tall you are.

Record how tall you are on this height chart and draw yourself on the chart up to your height.

Did you know?

What are you wearing to make yourself visible to drivers?

Draw yourself in your car seat wearing your seatbelt.

For more advice on child restraints call RAA Safety Centre 8202 4592 or visit www.raa.com.au/childrestraints

The law states that children seven years and over must use an approved child restraint,

until they’re able to wear a properly adjusted and fastened seatbelt. Most seven year olds

can’t fit a seatbelt properly; in fact many children won’t be able to wear a seatbelt

properly until they’re 10 years old or more.

It is also important to remember that children are safest in the rear row of seats.

It is not recommended to put a child under 12 years in the front passenger seat

with an airbag.

Congratulations!
