To: University administrators, faculty and staff From: FeelGood Students Subject: Why our FeelGood chapter needs and deserves your support! ____________________________________________________________ We are fortunate to be part of a university that is preparing us to be 21st century citizens—opening our eyes, minds and hearts to both the opportunities and the needs that exist in our world, and which await our compassionate, wise and strategic response. It is because of the role you have played in shaping our global outlook that we now ask for support as we respond to one of the most urgent needs of our time: chronic, global hunger. Itʼs a crisis that strikes at the very heart of the human family—claiming the lives of 25,000 human beings every day, including one child every 6 seconds. Having our eyes opened to this unimaginable tragedy, every fiber of our being is called to respond in the most effective way possible. That is why we have decided to become part of a national youth movement called FeelGood, and to follow in the footsteps of hundreds of other students across the country and launch a FeelGood chapter on our university campus. FeelGood trains students to run an on-campus social enterprise—a FeelGood grilled cheese deli—and to use it as a vehicle for raising money and awareness for hunger-ending programs that are effective and sustainable. 100% of the money raised is invested in these hunger-ending programs. None of it goes to FeelGood, which receives its funding from foundations and other sources. Because it involves making and selling food—a grilled cheese sandwich—establishing a FeelGood chapter requires close cooperation with our university on many levels, including Food Services, Campus Services and Student Life. FeelGood chapters at other schools show that this is a partnership with benefits for everyone. For students, it is one of the most empowering experiences of their undergraduate years; for the university, it becomes one more example of how the school supports and nurtures their studentsʼ growth as global citizens; and for the world, it makes a crucial contribution to the end of chronic hunger. This university has taught us to look for that intersection between our passions and the worldʼs needs, and to find there our lifeʼs true purpose. Now that we have found it, we need and value your support. With gratitude, The students of FeelGood
