Training and qualifications Essential First Degree or equivalent Post graduate qualification as a Systemic Family

Therapist Training in the use of outcome measures UKCP registered

Desirable Training in a mentalization-based therapeutic

approach

Knowledge and experience Essential Sound knowledge of child mental health and

family dynamics and systems. Sound knowledge of policies and procedures

relating to Child Protection. Experience of working with whole families. Experience of working with complex cases. Experience of working in a multi-professional team

and awareness of issues for professional networks and teams.

Experience of service quality monitoring. Experience of working with children/young people

at risk. Experience of research.

Skills Essential Ability to work therapeutically at a high level with a

wide range of complex difficulties. Ability to formulate a coherent understanding of

families from multiple perspectives. Ability to work with parents and children whose

behaviour is personally challenging. Ability to engage with children and their families

and to develop trusting therapeutic relationships amid complex and painful family difficulties.

Ability to think reflectively in a group context. Ability to work openly and flexibly with team

colleagues.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively about complex issues both verbally and in writing.

Ability to monitor and assess risk and act accordingly.

Ability to write clear and accurate notes, records and reports.

Other requirements Essential Advanced IT skills particularly Microsoft Word,

Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint. Ability to manage own workload and prioritise

conflicting deadlines with little supervision. Proactive approach to problem solving. Ability to work well under pressure. Tact, diplomacy and confidentiality. Ability to work independently and as part of a

team. Excellent communication skills.
