She has 4 grown children and 1 grandchild. With over 20 years of experience in this field we are excited for all that she brings to our hardworking community! In her own words: “This job is a true calling. So many people need us: as residents, as families. It is a job that is so fulfilling on every level.” She says her favorite thing about Fern Gardens is that: “The staff is so caring! The residents are amazing! It’s a place where caring about everyone is a priority.” In her spare time Lynn enjoys gardening, spending time with family, water color painting, crochet, sewing, cooking, travelling, and white water rafting. Shari has lived in California and Hawaii, she loves the hot weather we’ve been having and is a great help in the garden with watering and weeding! She attended college in San Jose, CA. and was an event planner and real estate broker. She is a big football fan and loves the 49ers. She is very active in our community and can be seen socializing, enjoying the activities, or singing along to our music classics. She loves to laugh and she loves to help out. Featured Employee: Raul R.Our featured employee this month is a man of many talents! Our maintenance assistant Raul. He started working for Fern Gardens in September of 2014 and has been a key member of our team ever since! He says his favorite thing about working at Fern Gardens is that he enjoys working everything from the kitchen, to caregiving, to maintenance. He is versatile and will get the job done! In his spare time, he says

that family comes first. He enjoys playing bass for his church and says that music is his hobby. Thank you, Raul, for all you do!

Welcome to Our Team!Brian Kuvaas, Maintenance DirectorBrian is our new Maintenance Director! He was recently hired in June and has been doing maintenance in this setting for over 13 years and really enjoys it! He says his favorite thing about working at Fern Gardens is that the staff is very friendly! In his spare time, he enjoys hunting and fishing. Welcome Brian!

Sonja R, Dietary ManagerAloha! My name is Sonja and I have been cooking for wonderful residents for over 18 years now and I love every minute of it! Just a little bit about me - I was born and raised in Hawaii. I have a daughter who is a senior at SOU and two beautiful Corgi’s named Zelda and Luci. I am also celebrating my 20th wedding anniversary this year! Also, I am a rockhound: not the kind that digs, but the kind that goes to the Gem and Mineral shows and spends! Stop by my kitchen and say hi sometime! Mahalo!

Activities Director CornerHello friends and family! I would like to let you know that I am very eager to get family members and friends involved in any activities that you might be interested! Our Residents LOVE when people come to entertain them, in any and all capacities! I am here to support you do that in any way that I can. Do you have a special talent you’d like to demonstrate? A favorite family pet you’d like to bring in? Let me know! We’d love to have you! You can now find a sign-up sheet at the front desk with a few opportunities and suggestions for volunteering your time for our Residents! Please check it out!

Peach CobblerCELEBRATE NATIONAL PEACH DAY ON AUGUST 24.

Ingredients:• 1/2 cup (1 stick)

butter, melted

• 2-quart microwave dish

• 1 cup self-rising flour

• 1 cup granulated sugar

• 1 cup whole milk

• 4 cups sliced peaches

• Vanilla ice cream

Directions:1. Melt 1 stick of butter in a 2

quart microwave dish. In a separate dish, combine 1 cup of self-rising flour and 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of whole milk. Mix these 3 ingredients thoroughly. Add to the melted butter.

2. Add 4 cups of sliced peaches (sweetened to taste) and do not stir.

3. Bake at 375 degrees F for 40 minutes or until browning is noted.

This is excellent served while warm. For extra flavor, top with vanilla ice cream. Serves 6.

N O T E : Canned or frozen peaches may be substituted for fresh. If plain flour is used, add 2 teaspoons of baking powder.
