What is it and Why Do We Care?

1. Social Media is many things to many people– Blogs

– Tools like Twitter, Friendfeed,Plurk and Jaiku

– Public social networks like Facebookand LinkedIn

– Social bookmarketing/tagging sites like deli.cio.usand digg

2. We care because all of us pulling in the same direction can help us create greater awareness AND demonstrate our capabilities

3. I DON’T ever want anyone to feel like the HAVE to participate though. We all have different comfort levels and we all need to respect those comfort levels.

Sample Blogging Policy

NO astro-turfing and NO infomercials (aaron) Be authentic! (aaron) Respect the company’s confidentiality and proprietary information. Ask your manager if you have any questions about what is appropriate

to include in your blog. Be respectful to the company, employees, customers, partners, and

competitors. Understand when the company asks that topics not be discussed for

confidentiality or legal compliance reasons. Ensure that your blogging activity does not interfere with your work

commitments. Make it clear that the views expressed in the blog are yours alone and

do not necessarily represent the views of your employer.
