description
Transcript of Let’s compost!
Composting is
nature’s way of
recycling.
Transform yard trimmings,
fruit scraps, and vegetable
peels into a rich soil
conditioner.
Healthy soil
grows healthy
plants!
Improve fertility,
water-holding
capacity, and the
texture of your soil!
Save money!
Save the environment!
Reduce costs for your city!
Stop the
dumping!
A healthy compost
pile needs a variety
of ingredients.
Carbon(brown stuff)
Nitrogen(green stuff)
A well-balanced diet
will create a healthy
environment for
composters
What not to
compost
Dog or cat poop(Picture omitted)
How to
Compost
1. Choose a
location
Composting can be done
indoors or outdoors.
Composting requires a lot of sun…
as well as shade.
2. Chop/shred
your ingredients
Smaller
pieces help
speed the
process up.
3. Balance it
well
Nature likes a balance of
green and brown.
4. Just add
water
Add water when
you build your pile
Keep it damp like
a sponge
To bin or not to bin… that is the question.
How do you know if it’s ready?
It should be crumblyand dark brown, and
should have a pleasant earthy aroma.
