Media Assist offers radio stations and audiovisual content providers a comprehensive range covering their entire digital production workflow. From production to broadcast, each

activity is represented: acquisition, editingof sound files, delivery, advertising and music scheduling, multi-channel broadcasting, archiving, data security, administration, etc.

Media Assist offers simultaneous access to several modules: from a single application, the user can record, edit or prepare a playlist.

Content can easily be retrieved from the archive storage or the production database thanks to a consistent content enrichment system and a powerful search engine.

Semantic search can also be implemented as an option, thus offering a broadly optimised media «search» function.

Through its Media Assist range, NETIA offers complete packs that cover the entire production workflow.

The Media Assist solution allows production streams for conventional stations to be run in parallel with those for new media outlets such as the Internet and Mobile broadcast services. Synchronisation and automation of these processes enable users to free themselves from technical tasks and focus on more value creating activities.

Browser

Media Assist database Browser (above) and indexation tabs (below)

The Browser is present on all Media Assist workstations. According to the profile, the user may access a set of personalised data.

One special feature of the Browser is the power of its search facility and its ability to bind together one broadcaster's content, even when that content is physically stored on different servers.

There are many search criteria to find a file quickly and all its associated data, that including texts, images or videos.

The Browser includes optional engines optimizing datamining. Each type of file is represented by a tab where several search criteria are defined.

The highly ergonomic features of the Media Assist production tools make them very easy to learn and use. There are several editing levels, ranging from the quick Snippet to the more complex Multi-track Snippet+. Processing of each production stage is now faster, and can even be processed from a Web-based application.

Production

RECORDING

The spectrum of the sound file is generated in real time. At any time, the user can rework the recording, start it again, do several takes to decide which one is the best.

Many situations are allowed for, such as reset when the user changes, program exit impossible when recording is in progress, immediate transfer of the recording in progress to the edit tab, for example.

MANUAL IMPORT

The Import module is designed to accept a great many of these supports (CD, DVD, etc.) and formats (PCM linear, MPEG, FLAC, AAC, etc.).

The user prepares the list of documents for import and starts the import. The imported files are then available in the database.

MANUAL EXPORT

Files can be exported to different targets and transcoded into a predefined format.

Different export profiles can be defined (with different output formats, sampling rate and frequency, number of channels – mono or stereo).

AUDIO EDITING

Snippet (mono-track)

Especially designed for editing interviews and reports, the Snippet tool provides all digital audio editing techniques in a single screen.

• Selection of a sequence at random• Editing during recording• Trim bin• Setting fade points, sequence inversion,

insertion of new sounds• Stretching a selected sequence •Drag & Drop, screen exit Scroll function, left

and right mouse click, keyboard shortcuts, special keyboard, etc.

Snippet+ (multi-track)

The Snippet+ tools allows mixing using several tracks. Each individual track has full editing and mixing (recording, independent fade and

panning curves for clips and for tracks, sequence stretching, sequence mastering, mute or solo, etc.). Snippet+ is also compatible with VST plugins.

iSnippet (editing tool for iOS)

iSnippet lets users equipped with iOS devices:

• edit and index content from their mobile • record media • export it - for broadcast - to Media Assist

database.

During recording, the user may adjust the recording volume, insert markers and set a screen lock. The edited files can themselves be sent as raw files or mastered files (MP2/AAC/ALAC/AIFF/WAVE) to an FTP server, or directly to the Media Assist database with an index file.

Accepted formats: AAC, ALAC and LPCM

Information plays a major role in our society. Whether it is political, social, economic, cultural or sports-related, it is now delivered continuously on multiple media. It has therefore become essential for a broadcaster to be able to easily interface with the systems deployed by the main press agencies. The NETIA solution offers a certain number of tools dedicated to the acquisition and processing of press agency news feeds.

NewsRoom

SCRIPT OFFICE

The acquisition of wires from several sources is based on protocols defined by the various suppliers. Script Office is compatible with the standard market protocols such as those

of AFP (Agence France Presse), Reuters, AP, Bloomberg, IRN, etc. These agency wires can be received simultaneously in Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Latin.

NEWSLINK

SCRIPT (News wire edition)

Media Assist’s Script News wire processing module let journalists view news as soon as they arrive, edit them and link sound recordings to them.

All features are combined to produce news with a firm grip on reality.

In order to integrate with existing clients, NETIA has developed Newslink. Based on the MOS protocol (Media Object Server), Media Assist is compatible with severalprocessing and delivery systems such as iNews, ENPS, etc. From a single interface, the features of each system are available, for flexibility of use. Using the back office Newslink module (NETIA MOS gateway), rundowns can automatically be created and Synchronized “Live” in the NETIA system. For instance, when stories (including text and audio) are placed and ordered into the Air queues in the NRCS, the MOS gateway and Newslink applications work together to create a synchronized sequence of audio in NETIA. Then in the studio, the playlists are broadcast with the control of the newsreader as he reads through the bulletin.

8

Page 9: let’s build the future of your radio togetherincluding the Internet, VOD, IPTV services, and mobile devices. NETIA solutions are relied on by more than 20,000 users in 200 installations

9

DESCRIPTION OF THE LEVEL OF INTEGRATION

•With Media Assist: it is possible to search and edit one or several audio items.

•With NRCS: journalists create scripts and insert them into playlists.

Thanks to integration, users can access certain specific features of Media Assist (NETIA Browser, NETIA Player and NETIA Snippet) directly in the NRCS interface. It is therefore possible to preview sounds and edit them, then very quickly insert them into scripts.

Bi-directional movement between Media Assist and NRCS

Through the MOS protocol, the NRCS client (NewsRoom Computer System) and the MOS compatible applications can exchange items and playlists, with the following possible actions: ADD / UPDATE / DELETE.

When rundowns are updated in NRCS, the update is taken into account in the MediaAssist playlists, and this takes place in both directions. All items from NRCS "rundowns" can be synchronised and read in Air-DDO (NETIA broadcasting tool).

Production workflow

On the NRCS user interface, the user can:

• Synchronise a "rundown" with the Media Assist playlist.

• Display the "NETIA Browser" ActiveX. In this way it is possible to search audio items to insert them in the NRCS scripts.

• Open the "NETIA Snippet" mono-track/ multi-track editing tool in ActiveX form (according to configuration).

• Playback audio items via "NETIA Player" ActiveX.

iNews Integration

•All iNews features are available•Option to access the Media Assist database• Editing audio items using a plugin• Texts and sounds may be added to stories.

ENPS integration

• Journalists retain their usual work environment

• Search and playback of audio items needed for news from the Media Assist database

• Editing audio items using a plugin• Texts and sounds may be added to stories

or title blocks• Management of database change.

How does this translate into everyday operations?

NETIA has ported several of its plugins to the MOS OCX format such as the Media Assist browser, Snippet, Snippet+, and a simple player application. This allows users to record, edit from their NRCS client, and most importantly create comprehensive news packages by directly linking audio elements from the Media Assist database into the story that has to be illustrated by the given piece(s) of audio. One of the advantage of this technique is that audio items are always attached to the story and vice and versa, making the editorial validation process easier and drastically reducing the problems of finding/playing wrong piece of audio to air.

Page 10: let’s build the future of your radio togetherincluding the Internet, VOD, IPTV services, and mobile devices. NETIA solutions are relied on by more than 20,000 users in 200 installations

Scheduling of one or more programme channels involves editing grids, preparing and filling playlists building stacks of jingles, music clips and commercials etc.

Media Assist has a number of scheduling tools available especially for radio stations.

Scheduling

Federall

The Federall module for playlist editing: playlist preparation is more rapid and flexible than ever as Federall makes all the necessary time calculations. Once the playlist template is ready, it just needs filling. When a sound is "ready-to-broadcast", its author just needs to drag & drop it into the space reserved for it.

Federall is also very popular with journalists as they place their reports in the news playlist directly from the production workstation. Whenever a sound is inserted, the software automatically calculates the time and warns of any overruns or underruns.

Users can also import music programming from third party systems either manually or automatically. All insertions and modifications are dynamically saved in the main playlist. Additionally, playlists can be generated automatically.

Federall has several production tools, such as Multi-Mix, which allows access to four tracks to fine tune the sequencing of four consecutive sounds; The Voice-Over feature gives access to three tracks, with the middle one being used for a vocal or musical intervention between two sounds.

Federall

11

Multi-Mix

Grid editor

Grid-Editor is a veritable timetable, where program slots are modeled for a given period.

The sequence of programs is detailed step-by-step:

• Insertion of models or steps • Items transition with Fixed or floating time, • Different starting modes (automatic,

manual, with extra time allowed, etc.) • Metadata Insertion

Recurrent sounds such as programme jingles are set directly in the grid, so that the programmer does not need to load them for each new schedule.

Once the grid has been created it can be used throughout the period defined, and accepts temporary or permanent modifications at any time. Based on the grid thus formatted, the generation of each new playlist is automatic.

Adverts localisation

This solution is used to create, manage and dispatch several micro-playlists, each one of which is dedicated to specific region, when it comes to local advertising.

The solution can be used in complex environment and countries with specific constraints:

• Long distance separating sites (including very remote ones with very basic connectivity),

• Multiple time zone (including half hours) & day light savings modes,

• Multiple networks (sometime there can be multiple audio beds such as a local and state bed…).

Page 12: let’s build the future of your radio togetherincluding the Internet, VOD, IPTV services, and mobile devices. NETIA solutions are relied on by more than 20,000 users in 200 installations

Music scheduling

An automatic music scheduling system is embedded in Media-Assist, allowing for an automatic filling of day to day schedule with music upon rules and rotation constraints.

The tool helps you to generate music playlists, with different patterns so that your musical programming never repeat exactly the same way twice.

Not only can you call all sorts of user-defined music categories, but you can also set dayparting restrictions, breakable and unbreakable rules that are coherent with the music policy of your radio station…

The relevance and responsiveness of information have become essential, which is why Media Assist is used for automatic scheduled recording of audio and video streams.Media Assist's feed pack records everything that is broadcast and thus automatically captures all streams to ensure they comply with legal requirements. The NETIA solution is able to make several recordings simultaneously, 24 hours a day.

Feed Pack

Feed-Plan

The Feed-Plan module is used for day-by-day scheduling of all automatic recordings of external programmes. The technician uses a specific calendar to define each recording in advance with the name of the station, date, time of acquisition, length, etc.

Feed-Plan also lets you schedule recordings automatically through the import of EPG (Electronic Program Guide) files.

Feed-In

The Feed-In module automatically integrates all audio and/or video stream recording requests. Station networking means that several recordings can take place simultaneously. Feed-In has a Full Channel Recording function to record all day long up to a pre-set date and by periods of 1/2 hour, 1 hour, etc.The recording sources can record analog or IP streams. Recording streams via IP lets you fully capture metadata (subtitles, programme info, multilingual audio tracks, etc.).

19

Record, edit and schedule when on air:

Several tools from the Media Assist range are available: cueing, mixing on four tracks, playlist modification, recording, editing. As background tasks, the technician uses monitoring and voice-over recording features.

AirPlaylist

AirPlaylist is an optimized solution for broadcasting numerous channels. Natively integrated with the NETIA ecosystem, any playlist created and generated within NETIA FederAll module may be broadcast via the AirPlaylist module. Logs for any broad-cast item may be accessed and monitored via NETIA’s AirRun module. Audio-over-IP-compliant, encompassing the AES67 interoperability standard, the AirPlay-list module supports broadcasting via tradi-tional physical sound cards or IP-based virtual drivers.

Built on a distributed architecture, the AirPlay-list module augments the overall reliability and robustness of playout while reducing total cost of ownership using a limited number of hardware devices.

In high-demand scenarios, the AirPlaylist user interface supports centralized control and monitoring of many different playout systems

installed across different servers. With the Web-based interface, remote users can easily access the module to monitor or supervise playout on each channel and the status of media.

To make it short, this module simplifies multichannel playout and distribution of audio feeds to CDN, and enables tremendous gains in efficiency while ensuring the high reliability essential to broadcast applications.

Synchronous playlist modification and monitoring:

Directly linked to the scheduling workstations, Air-DDO keeps track of the latest changes made to the playlist in real time and the refresh is automatically displayed. The technician is immediately warned by a visual alarm. The Air-DDO workstation has direct access to a scheduling tab. By extension, the programme can feed a stream of on-air monitoring information to an Intranet site.

Automatic, semi-automatic or manual mode:

These three broadcast modes are permanently available and the user can switch from one to another at will.

The semi-automatic mode is useful for integrating slots at a set time (such as a commercial break). The commercial will go on air automatically at the specified time. A time lag of ± x seconds can be defined for it.

Air-DDO in automatic mode comes into its own for overnight music programmes.

21

Archiving and exchanging media between several remote sites requires the essential expertise of Media Assist: automatic digitisation/conversion of sound files, automatic management of transfers, input of metadata and export. To ensure direct access to archived media for journalists, directors and producers, the NETIA solution organises the media management procedures, harmonises inter-application exchanges, manages prioritisation, automates publication tasks.

Exchange

Autofill (Automated Import)

The Autofill module automates document conversion and import into the central base through a continuous polling method.

Irrespective of the format, Autofill converts the file to Media Assist format, stores it in the database along with any related data, and makes it available to all stations in the system.

Dispatcher (Automatic export and conversion)

Dispatcher is a powerful controller capable of converting then exporting sound files directly from the Media Assist base to any destination.

The specific feature of Dispatcher is that it offers parametrisation of several profiles. Each profile is defined by a conversion format, a destination, etc.

Exchange Hub

At the heart of your organisation, the Media Assist suite encourages collaborative work, with an Exchange Hub module.• Thanks to the Media-Sharing feature, it is possible to share content between several sites

equipped with the NETIA solution, while selecting all your target destinations at once, for easier and faster delivery.

• Thanks to the Export feature, copies of your database content can also be sent to several types of platforms (e.g. an FTP server, a DVD…). Additionally, authorised users can define their own output profiles by choosing the encoding format, the rate, the sampling frequency, etc.

Page 22: let’s build the future of your radio togetherincluding the Internet, VOD, IPTV services, and mobile devices. NETIA solutions are relied on by more than 20,000 users in 200 installations

NETIA Workflow Assist

NETIA Workflow Assist is an automation tool that allows you to create, execute and orga-nise the process of various tasks, constituting your workflow.

Creation of a workflow (modelling all tasks to be automated) is performed via an interface that generates a descriptive XML file corresponding to the modelled workflow.

This graphic editor can also be used to modify the original definition of an existing workflow. Once the workflow has been created/modified in the editor, the user can save it as an XML file. This file is then stored in a specific directory and immediately taken into consideration by the system engine.

All instances of a modified workflow whichare already in progress in the workflow engineare not impacted by such modifications.

Furthermore, new instances of workflows will be based on the latest version to date.

NETIA Workflow Assist is a software module developed in C++ which can be installed on any standard Windows machine. It is possible to install several workflow editors for a single workflow engine. From then on, several users concurrently have the ability to create and modify workflows.

22

23

Top priority to data security! NETIA endeavours to optimise software security aspects. At the heart of the system are all the Back Office modules to administer and manage the relationship between workstations on one or more networks. The « Back-Office » Pack is designed to centrally manage all aspect of the systems, such as user rights managements, archiving and Purge policies, etc.

Back Office

Administrator

The Administrator module lets you create and manage users and groups of users as well as the rights and rules applicable to these users.

For example, the administrator may allow a file to be viewed or read while applying restrictions to editing.

Administrator also supports groups created in an Active Directory.

Therefore, the module lets you centralise management of users while allowing them to use a single account to access all features provided to them by the administrator.

Federall Service

Federall Service lets you automate imports from third-party tools and systems into Media Assist playlists. A number of integrations are already available: MusicMaster, G-selector, Ram-Comm, etc.

This service is also used for the automatic generation of playlists, which is based on pre-defined models in the programme grid (Grid-Editor module).

Page 24: let’s build the future of your radio togetherincluding the Internet, VOD, IPTV services, and mobile devices. NETIA solutions are relied on by more than 20,000 users in 200 installations

Purge

The Automatic purge module deletes files from the production server according to the expiration dates set by the administrator.

Rules based on categories, the type of metadata can be implemented to refine the sorting. The tool helps you to generate music

playlists, with different patterns so that your musical programming never repeat exactly the same way twice. Not only can you call all sorts of user-defined music categories, but you can also set dayparting restrictions, breakable and unbreakable rules that are coherent with the music policy of your radio station …

Archive

The Media Assist archiving solutions lets you manage archives on CD-ROM/DVD-ROM media and to dedicated archive servers. Processes for file archiving are managed through a simple system of flags, while assets retrieval is completely transparent to the end users. Besides, no matter their location, media are easily accessible and findable.

For example, if an item has already been archived, the system will simply ask the user if he/she wants to restore the archived element to the production server. If the user chooses this option, the audio item will be restored in a matter of click!

Therefore, the radio station staff only has to focus on editorial and creative work rather than digging through obscure and arcane data libraries, enjoying a mainstream and accessible archive system.

Tab Editor

Thanks to the Tab Editor module, administrators can easily create personalised tabs in the browser.

This creation of tabs allows elements to be grouped into editorial categories.

24
