Lessons from the Richest Man Ever

description

http://kevinoefelein.com There’s a new sheriff in town. Actually, I’m talking about Mansa Musa I of Mali, who’s now considered to be the richest human to have ever lived. But he lived in the 1300s. So not exactly new. Anyway, the article that ranks him as richest man ever also ranks the top 26 richest men to have ever lived (there were no women on the list). And it got me to thinking. What do these men have in common? Have they laid a blueprint to their success? And here are some stats to help with that: Of the 26 listed in the article I read, 14 were Americans. Three are alive today (with #8 Muammar Qaddafi dying last year) 5 were kings or other types of rulers. One was the father of a king and one the fighting companion of a king. 3 were English noblemen. Anyway, none of us can change our nationality or expect to become noblemen or kings. So that leaves us to actually have to work to build our riches, which as coincidence would have it, is exactly how the three living people on this list made theirs. Who are these men? Bill Gates, Carlos Slim, and Warren Buffett. And just like us, these men are businessmen (or to be PC, businesspeople). Gates built Microsoft, Buffett built Berkshire Hathaway. Slim built Grupo Carso. So there it is. While the richest person ever might have been a king who exploited his country’s resources and people, most of the list earned their money like the rest of us do, without inheriting noble titles or crowns. Just some food for thought.

Well, here are some stats to help with those questions:
