Tragedy happens to Godly people!

1. Famine strikes Elimelech and his family.

2. There has not been a famine since Israel entered Canaan. (Deuteronomy 28)

3. Naomi (pleasant) is a widow in a foreign land. (Ruth 1:3)

4. Mahlon and Chilion die— Naomi is now childless and a widow in a foreign land. (Ruth 1:5)

Tragedy happens to Godly people!

1. Elimelech means—- My God is KING

2. If God is his KING then “why is he going through a famine”! Why does he die and leave his wife and children?

3. Why is he having to move his family to a foreign country?

4. The age old question of evil, pain, and suffering.

Tragedy happens to Godly people!

• Ruth blames GOD—(Ruth 1:20-21)

• Ruth forgot she when out empty! FAMINE!!!

• Just because tragedy happens, does not mean that God is against us!

• Evil, pain, and suffering are the result of sin and sin is a result of choice.

• Remember Deut. 28

(3)• There was a famine in the land but there was also food in other areas.

• Two women learned about Yahweh or Jehovah GOD!

• Through the storms of life God is there! (Deut. 31:6 and Hebrews 13:5)

• Even when we sin God is merciful to us! (Gen. 4:10-16).

(3)• When Naomi comes back they remember her.

• When Naomi comes back Ruth is with her.• When Naomi comes back it is the beginning of

barely harvest!• When she left it was because of famine when

she returns it is harvest season!

• When tragedy strikes hold to God’s unchanging hand!
