Dividing by 10
When you divide a decimal by 10, the decimal point moves one place to the left. Only one 0.
(Think: number becomes smaller)
Ex. 5.6/ 10 = 0.56
Dividing by 100
When you divide a decimal by 100, the decimal point moves two places to the left. There are two 0 in 100.
Ex. 5.6/100 = 0.056
Dividing by 1000
When you divide a decimal by 1000, the decimal point moves three places to the left. There are three 0 in 1000.
Ex. 5.6/1000 = 0.0056
Dividing by 10 000
When you divide a decimal by 10 000, the decimal point moves four places to the left. There are four 0 in 10 000.
Ex. 5.6/10 000 =0.00056
