Lesson 5

5
Lesson 5: Dealing with Primitive Shapes In this lesson you will learn: 1- How to use the primitive menu to select 3D objects (basics shapes) and place them on the grid. 2- How to move 3D shapes and objects around the grid. 3- How to rotate 3D objects to get a view from all sides. 4- How to scale objects and change their size using measuring tool. Key vocabulary: Dimensions: The space something occupies, height, width and length. Sphere: A perfectly round 3-dimensional object. Cylinder: A 3-dimensional tube shape. Cone: A 3-dimensional shape that tapers smoothly from a flat base (usually circular) to a point. Wedge: A solid shaped like a V. Prism: A triangular 3-dimensional shape. Pyramid: A solid with a polygon base, (three or more sides), and triangular sides that meet in a point. Hemisphere: Half of a sphere. Linear: In a line. Angular: Having angles. An angle is the space between two lines that start from the same point. Rotate: To turn around from a center point. Volume: The amount of 3-dimensional space an object occupies. a. Creating 3D Objects (Primitive shapes) 1. To create 3D objects (such as cube, sphere, cone, cylinder, prism, hemisphere, pyramid, wedge and torus) click on the second icon in the top menu. A sub menu called the primitives menu will appear. 2. Select any shape you want (for example: cube) from the primitive menu and then click on the grid, to place the shape in your workspace. The object menu will appear and you can use this menu to change the size and shape of the object. Press on TAB to change the measurements.
