Work – the result of a force MOVING an object.

When you push or pull something and it moves you have done work.

If you push or pull on something and it does not move you have not done work.

Simple Machine – a machine made of one or two parts.
Simple Machines make work easier.
Types of Simple Machines
Inclined PlaneA flat surface with one side higher than the other. (a ramp)

LeverA stiff bar that rests on a support called a fulcrum which lifts or moves loads. (the longer your lever the easier the lift)

Pulley A simple machine that uses a rope and a wheel to move an object. (The more pulleys, the longer the rope, the easier it is to pull)
