Our mission:
To transform Governors Island into a vibrant resource for NYC with extraordinary public space, educational, not-for-profit and commercial facilities.
![Page 9: Leslie Koch on Governors Island for the Smithsonian, 2015](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022070601/587f39281a28ab121d8b7823/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
In 2006, the question was:
What will Governors Island be? Sometimes phrased as:
“Where is the master plan?”“Is anything ever going to happen there?”
9
![Page 10: Leslie Koch on Governors Island for the Smithsonian, 2015](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022070601/587f39281a28ab121d8b7823/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
• What does NYC not have?*
• What should happen first? • Why would anyone come
here on a Sunday?
Instead we asked:
10
* * And does it make sense on an island?
![Page 11: Leslie Koch on Governors Island for the Smithsonian, 2015](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022070601/587f39281a28ab121d8b7823/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
