LEPROSY RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY TRAINING
Dr. Suraj Maharjan, newly appointed Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon, attended a five-week long ‘Leprosy Reconstructive Surgery (LRS) Course’ at The Leprosy Mission (TLM) Naini, India from 3 Chaitra - 4 Baisakh (16 April- 18 May 2018). During the training, he covered 12 operation days with 61 cases from
TLM Naini and Delhi. TLM Naini performs 450 LRS in a year i.e. on average 30-40 per month which is the largest number in India. He also got the chance to learn from the Physio team and had great time interacting with patients. Working Hands and Promise Nepal both UK based charity organisation, supported Dr. Suraj’s training, accommodation and travel cost.

CELEBRATING WORLD NURSES DAY
AO (ARBEITSGEMEINSCHAFT FÜR OSTEO-SYNTHESEFRAGEN) ALLIANCE SEMINAR
Green Pastures Hospital celebrated International Nurses Day on 30th Baisakh (13 May 2018) with the theme, “Nurse: A voice to lead. Health is a human right”. There was singing and dancing performances from our nurses.
On 28-29 Baisakh (11-12 May 2018) AO Alliance Foundation conducted a ‘Basics of Fracture Management for Operation Room Personnel (ORP)’ seminar at Green Pastures Hospital. 26 participants from different hospitals of Pokhara and faculties from Kathmandu and Pokhara, including orthopedic surgeons and ORP nurses, attended the programme. The seminar consisted of lectures, small group discussions, practical sessions and hands on workshops.
PALLIATIVE CARE REFRESHER TRAINING18 participants, including four GPH staff and 14 from other Pokhara hospitals, gathered for a Refresher Palliative Care (PC) Workshop held at GPH on 2-3 Baisakh (April 15-16 2018).
The 2 interactive days concentrated on advanced communication skills, increasing understanding of holistic care around the end-of-life for patients and families plus a focus on non-cancer PC, which is the biggest PC need in Nepal. Feedback and evaluations were very positive, and this strategic training has been possible through support from INF UK for our current PC program.

PROMISE NEPAL
A group of eight visitors representing Promise Nepal UK led by Dr. Maggie Burgess visited the hospital on 8 Baisakh (21 April 2018) as part of their ‘Charity Trek to Mardi Himal’. The group was given a short introduction of the hospital’s services, particularly the leprosy
work by the Medical Director, Dr. Dipak Maharjan and the Dermatologist, Dr. Ramesh Sharma. The group later had a short hospital tour..
BMS WORLD MISSION
A team of eight members representing the Baptist Union of Wales visited the hospital on 20 April (7th of Baisakh). The members have been long-time supporters of INF Nepal’s work through BMS World Mission, UK.

We bid goodbye to our Leprosy Officer, Mr. Balaram Bhandari, who served the hospital for 42 long years. Mr. Bhandari had been a true resource for the hospital whose experience and dedication towards his job is irreplaceable.
