MIA AND LEO BUILD A CASTLE

Mia, Leo, Rabbit and Fairy were justfinishing breakfast when Leo burst out with a plan. “Today I’m going to build a

castle!” he said.

“Oh, me too!” Mia announced. “But ... we don’t have enough building blocks for two castles.” They racked their brains trying to solve this problem. But there just weren’t

enough building blocks.

When breakfast was over, Mom gave Mia and Leo a dab of cream on their noses. And that

was when Leo came up with an idea!“I’ve got it!” he said. “Why don’t you build your castle with the building blocks and I

build mine out of sand in the sandbox?”“Great idea!” Mia replied. “I’ll build mine

right next to yours.”

Rabbit liked the idea, too: “Whoever builds the most beautiful castle wins! I’ll be the judge.”

“Me too! I want to help Rabbit judge the castles,” said Fairy, who had appeared at the window ledge.

“Since when do fairies know anything aboutcastles?” Rabbit asked doubtfully.

“Ever since rabbits started building them,”Fairy stated.

All of them went out into the garden. Mia brought the building blocks and Leo fetched water to make the sand castle. Finally, they were ready to start building. Rabbit hopped back and forth and gave both of them tips.

“You have to build your tower higher, Mia!” he’d say. And: “Leo, that moat isn’t deep

enough!”

“Easy for you to say,” replied Leo. “Why don’t you build your own castle?”

“I’m the judge,” Rabbit replied quickly. “But if I were to build a castle it would be

so large that we could all live in it!”Yet even without Rabbit’s help, the castles

got bigger and bigger. “I don’t know how we’re going to pick the

winner,” Rabbit whispered into Fairy’s ear. “So far I think both of them are ...“

And then he slipped. He bumped a paw into Mia’s castle and fell on top of Leo’s

sand palace! “Oh no!” cried Mia, shocked. Her castle had collapsed, just like Leo’s!

“Hmm, I don’t think rabbits are castle builders at all,” commented Leo.

“But they’re great at demolishing them!”“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to,”

Rabbit said regretfully. “It was all for nothing,” Mia sighed.

Then Fairy had an idea. “You know what?”she suggested. “We should all build a newcastle together – out of sand and building

blocks!” “I’ll help!” offered Rabbit.“And I’ll be more careful this time, I promise!”

Together, they started building again. Mia worked on the walls. Rabbit dug the moat.

And Leo and Fairy built thegatehouse and towers.

“I think this castle is the best of them all!” said Rabbit when they were finished.

“It looks like a true palace!” replied Miahappily. “You’re right,” agreed Fairy.

She sprinkled a little glitter on to the towers and roofs. “A palace with a fairy, a rabbit ... and a prince and princess!” And – just this

once – Rabbit nodded in agreement.
