Next-Gen Data ProtectionVeritas and Cloudian introduce a seamless and cost-effective data protection solution that provides customers using Veritas’s NetBackup software and appliances with a high-performance S3-compatible public or private cloud backup target. By combining NetBackup with Cloudian HyperStore bucket storage policies, users can store data in geographically separated regions or datacenters. Cloudian HyperStore also provides the capability of assigning different storage policies on a per bucket basis. Also, Cloudian HyperStore data can be storedin erasure code or a replicated format.

Replication results in greater performance, but less storage capacity. Erasure code provides the most cost-effective way to store data because the data is stored in smaller chunks across the cluster. Cloudian HyperStore supports multiple compression algorithms that compresses objects on the storage side tosave space. Choosing the right storage type depends on your storage size and needs. For example, if the backup content stored on the cluster is meant for archiving and not accessed frequently, erasure code is the best choice. If the backup content requires the greatest performance and replication size is nota factor, replication is the best choice. Use NetBackup Accelerator to perform full backups at the cost of incremental backups to cloud storage. NetBackup Accelerator is able to leverage platform and file system independent track logs to detect changed files, while sending only the changed segments of the files to be backed up through the NetBackup Media Server to a Cloudian HyperStore cluster.

Add Cloud Storage The Add Cloud Storage option lets you add customized cloud deployment details for NetBackup to communicate with the Cloudian HyperStore service

Media server name Select NetBackup media server from the drop-down list

STEP 2 Configuring a Disk Pool for Cloud Storage

Service host On the Volume Selection panel, the wizard displays the volumes that have been created already under your account within the vendor’s cloud storage

STEP 3 Configure a Storage Unit for Cloud Storage

Configure a new storage unit

Click NetBackup Management > Storage > Storage Units

Actions > New > Storage Unit

Complete the fields and click OK

Update the maximum concurrent jobs to anything other than zero or 1. A maximum concurrent jobs of zero means that the Cloud Storage Unit will be disabled. A maximum concurrent jobs of 1 means that only 1 job can run at a time regardless of the number of media servers that has access to thisstorage unit.
