Mission-Critical Server-Speak 102Our definition: the remaining or unused capacity in a server. Determining the amount of headroom you have for applications and workloads is crucial in managing growth and future needs. Lenovo X6 mission-critical servers enable you to wisely manage future capacity planning because they provide maximum headroom.1

Our definition: the creation of a virtual server by partitioning a physical server into multiple mini-servers.3 In the context of VMware and Lenovo joint solutions for virtualization, Lenovo mission-critical X6 8-socket servers reliably support up to 4TB of virtual machines! (4-socket machines support 2TB.) This capability could be a game changer in your environment!

Our definition: A PCIe-based solid-state drive (SSD) is an SSD developed for the high-speed PCIe bus interface that delivers performance benefits.4 4-socket x3850 X6servers provide up to 11 slots for PCIe-based SSDs and 8-socket x3950 X6 servers.

Our definition: storage (also known as internal storage) that resides inside — or onboard — the server. Lenovo mission-critical X6 servers offer support for SSDs and HDDs. In fact, a 4-socket system supports up to 30.72TB of storage and an 8-socket system supports up to 61.44TB of onboard storage!

Our definition: storage that resides outside the server and is connected to it. Sometimes referred to as hard disk, a hard drive or just storage.3 Lenovo markets a rich portfolio of enterprise-grade storage products designed to adapt to growing virtual environments and ensure data is ready when you need it. This includes direct-attached storage, network-attached storage, storage area networks and tape.

Our definition: a processing unit that reads-in instructions to perform specific actions.4 An 8-socket X6 server can contain up to 144 cores. A four-socket X6 server contains half as many.

Our definition: the brains of the server. It reads and executes applications and operating system instructions.3

4-socket Lenovo servers support Intel Xeon E7 4800/8800 v3 series processors and 8-socket X6 servers support Intel Xeon E7 8800 v3 series processors.

Our definition: the hardware component that temporarily stores data on chips. Memory chips attach to a piece of hardware known as a memory module. The memory module slides into a memory slot located on the motherboard.3
