Lemonade Alexandra Stan

Analysis 1

As a Romanian pop artist, Alexandra Stan made an outbreak in 2011 with her hit song ‘Mr Saxobeat’ and has since been known for this song around the world. Some of her other songs were less popular and didn’t make it as big. I came across one of her songs ‘Lemonade’ which briefly describes memories that she once had for her lover. Briefly discussed with the other members in my team we though this song could be idyllic for the target audience that we were aiming at and the narrative would be a lot easier to portray. The actual music video doesn’t match the lyrics with a narrative other than having lemonade in some of the shots and theming the music video with the colour of yellow.

Aims and objectives of the song.

During this music we saw a more mature out take in how Alexandra Stan approaches her audiences. The music video has a 1950s feel to it in the clothes that she wears. This could be to target an older target audience of her genre so that they are able to relate easier to the music video. As you can see on the right, the set designers of this production also made sure that it also looked sophisticated for an older target audience with the patterned walls and brightly coloured photos in the kitchen. In the 1950s we know women were mainly house wives and it is as though Alexandra Stan represents this through preparing lemon juice in the kitchen. It suggests a Bitter relationship as we know lemons are sour.

Cut rates and shots of the music video

As this music video is a pop, there are several things to code by in order to make it more successful. For example, the majority through watching and listening to the music video, I came to find this pattern that came through the first verse and beginning of the chorus. The triangular pattern which has occurred suggests that there’s a specific convention to abide by for this music video.

As you can see from the start of this music video there is less of an amount of cuts to match the pace of the music. I hope to convey this in my music video as well as it fits to the conventions of the structure of music videos.

Analysing the start of the music video, I came to find a lot of shots which compliment the artist such as; close ups and wide shots with them as a center point are used for the audience to be instantly captured.

Towards the send of the first verse, we see and increase in cut rates which create the build up to the chorus, supporting this is the fast pace of the music. Again, entertaining he audience.
