MontrealCulture, History, and Architecture

MAY 30 - JUNE 3, 2018

Mount Royal Park

From the historic district of Old Montreal to Little Italy around the Jean Talon market, Montreal is a city of neighborhoods. The warp of the city’s urban fabric is late 19th and early 20th-century, from the era when Montreal was the metropolis of Canada. Modernist architecture arrived late but with a splash; contemporary architecture in the city is largely about intervention in that existing fabric. Montreal is a UNESCO City of Design and design is a preoccupation for Montrealers whether it is public places or libraries or the festivals that mark the year. From the iconic Habitat 67 to the imposing Notre Dame Basilica to the recently completed pavilions at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, admire the architectural landscape that is unique to Montreal while staying in the heart of the city’s downtown at Hotel Le Crystal.
