Biomass is created by taking all waste matter including deadplant and tree material, some manure, corn, wood and grass. This waste material is then most commonly turned into woodpellets for wood pellet burners. The wood pellets are thentransportedto the site and stored in the on-site storage systemsthat can be underground or stored in an external hopper. Theywill then be fed into the burner in the building to generate heat.

    Passivent aircool ventilators:

can be integrated into any wall orcurtain walling system. they allownatural air to flow in and out withoutallowing rain to pass through.Ventilation airflow is continuouslyvariable by 24V modulating actuators.Ventilators can be controlled by Passiventsrange of thermostatic controls orprogrammable controllers,or linked to abuilding energy management system. I chosethis system as itcan be integrated into my curtainwalling system perfectly, they allow naturalventilation into the swimming pool area withoutcausing draughts or discomfort inside as theyare placed so high.

    Stack Ventilation

The ventilation stack as shown on the plan highlighted in green in the changingroom areaextracts air from the ground floor level to the second floor level. the proposedventilation stack runs 1200mm above roof level. they are constructed of 300mm cast insitu concrete walls.

Stack ventilation uses temperature differences to move air. Hot air rises because it islower pressure. For this reason, it is sometimes called buoyancy ventilation.

Air goes into the stack vnetilator,as the air heats it rises, it is thenreleased at roof level where theprocess will start all ove again

I based the design of the roof over the mainbuilding on the leisure centre in RoscreaCounty Tipperary. I liked the simple curve, thats curves at the centre and gradually fallsto the edges of the building. I also liked themain entrance, as it is a wall of curtainglazing the entrance is easily identifiable, while also providing natural light into thefront entrance. I also liked the contrast ofthe whit walls against the glazing so i choseto use this same idea in my own project.

I based the design of my 25mswimming pool and leisurepool on the swimming pool atD.C.U. as shown in the picturesto the left and above. i liked theidea of having the glulambeams exposed to the undersideof the roof. I feel that theexposed timber adds texture andcharacter to the swimming pools. The timber also reflects thewater which adds depth to theroom. The exposed timber alsoadds a cosy eliment and they areessentially a main feature withinthe room.

I based the roof over the 25m swimming pooland the leisure pool roof on the Kilkennyleisure centre. I think the curved kalzip roofadds a diiferent element to the building. Itadds colour to the over all image. It also addscurves to the inside of the roof which can beused as a main feature within the rooms. Italso creates the effect of waves which goesperfectly within the swimming pool rooms. Thekalzip roof is also quick and easily installed.
