2014 CAMP DATESJuly 20 - August 2 | August 3 - August 16

CMT Learning, the specialist provider of English language teaching combined with top quality sport, has teamed up with Leicester Tigers, Europe’s most successful rugby club, to create a 2-week programme for students coming to the UK to learn English and develop their rugby!

13-NIGHT ENGLISH LANGUAGE & RUGBY CAMPSRUGBY SCHOOL, WARWICKSHIRE, ENGLAND

Who are these camps for? These camps are open to boys aged 12-17 who are keen to develop their English and rugby skills. These camps will especially suit school, club and college teams, development squads and groups.

What is included in the rugby coaching? The Tigers coaching programme will focus on the progression of skills, game understanding, team work and long-term athlete development. During the camp, players will be extended and challenged at every opportunity. Our coaches will help these young players to not only progress, but to maximise their potential.

Could you be a Tigers Academy player? This will be a great opportunity to see what it would be like to be an elite rugby player in the Tigers Academy. These camps will offer specialised sessions focused on strength and conditioning, as well as rugby-specific training. Players will be continually assessed and evaluated with individual player feedback, which is provided at the end of each camp.

What is Rugby School like? This leading private school, which is home to 800 pupils, has a rich sports history. In 1823 William Webb Ellis first ran with the ball around Rugby School Close, inventing the game of rugby football. Today, innumerable tourists come to visit the legendary birthplace of rugby, and rugby teams from all over the world can be seen training against the distinctive backdrop of Rugby School’s Butterfield’s Chapel. Rugby’s greatest Head Master Dr Arnold (1828-42), a passionate supporter of rugby, was influential in inspiring Baron Pierre de Coubertin to establish the modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.

Leicester Tigers, England’s most successful rugby team, became the country’s first official champions when they beat Waterloo on the last day of the 1987/1988 season. In May 2013 the Tigers won a record 10th Premiership league title when they defeated Northampton Saints 37-17 at Twickenham.

Captain Toby Flood, who plays the position of fly-half, joined from Newcastle Falcons in 2008 and took over the captaincy from Geordan Murphy in the summer of 2013.

Coach and Director of Rugby Richard Cockerill originally joined the club as a player in 1992. He was named head coach as the Tigers won the Premiership title and reached the Heineken Cup Final in 2008/2009.

Leicester Tigers Academy Programme

• The Tigers Academy was established in 1998 to train players capable of playing professional rugby, and boasts of developing players such as Tom Croft, Ben Youngs and Manu Tuilagi.

• In 2002 the Academy was rewarded for their work and given Rugby Football Union status.

• The Academy Programme develops players aged 16 - 19 across all components of performance: technical, tactical, physical, mental and lifestyle.

• The focus of the Academy Programme, which is held at the Oval Park training ground, is on individual development within a team environment.

COACHING

Leicester Tigers Rugby Camps will be run by the Tigers community and senior academy coaches, alongside former Tigers players.

How are players coached? With the wealth of experience that Leicester Tigers have in running rugby camps, parents can be assured that players are in capable hands. All Tigers coaches are trained to a minimum of RFU Level 2, fully DBS checked and first aid trained. CMT’s English and pastoral staff, which includes a full-time physiotherapist, will be looking after players at all other times.

Leicester Tigers have been successfully and safely delivering rugby camps for over 10 years. They conform to both England’s Rugby Football Union and the International Rugby Board’s guidance in teaching rugby.

The camps are designed to develop players, based on the core four skills, as filtered down from the Tigers Academy; Catch and Pass, The Tackle, Support and Evasion and The Breakdown. All sessions will have one of these four core skills as its main focus, with the camp culminating in age group games.

ACCELERATE YOUR ENGLISH LEARNING!

CMT’s accelerated English teaching model centres around the benefits of teaching English in an inspiring sports environment. English will be spoken both in the classroom and on the playing field.

How are students taught?A total of 25 hours will be spent in the classroom, with students benefitting from modern teaching aids and a stimulating, sports-relevant curriculum. The teachers will explain many of the technical terms of rugby… in English!

At the start of each camp, students will take a short language test which is used to place them in an appropriate class. At the end of the camp, students can take their workbooks home to show parents and friends what they have learnt. Students will also receive an individual assessment from their tutor, with advice on how to further develop their language skills. All of our students see a clear improvement by the end of the camp.

Did you know...The project work carried out by students in our most advanced classes, which focuses on communication skills, helps to prepare them for examinations such as: IGCD, IELTS, Trinity and ESB.
