2017-18 BY THE NUMBERS

ALL-TIME VS. COLGATEWednesday’s matchup will be the 65th all-time between Lehigh and Colgate. Over the last 10 matchups dating back to the start of the 2012-13 season, the Mountain Hawks hold a 7-4 record, including a 2-3 record on the road and 5-1 mark at Stabler Arena. Lehigh leads the all-time series 38-26. Colgate has won three of the last five meet-ings overall and three of the last four in Hamilton.

The two teams have split the regular season series each of the last four years, and Colgate has not won the season series (including PLT matchups) since taking two of three in the 2004-05 season. The home team has won each game over the last two seasons. Last year in Ham-ilton, Lehigh rallied from down 20 to take a three-point lead late in the third quarter before Colgate outscored Lehigh 18-15 in the fourth. Quinci Mann led Lehigh with 23 points with five three-pointers and Mae Williams scored a then career-high 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Colgate’s Kateri Stone netted 29 points on 8-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from beyond the arc.

On Mar. 1 at Stabler Arena, Lehigh shot a season-high 53.6 percent and used 19 points from Mann and 17 from Gena Grundhoffer to pull away in the second half for an 83-74 win in the regular season finale.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERSColgate enters Wednesday as the only remaining team without a win in Patriot League play (4-13, 0-6 PL). The Raiders have dropped nine straight dating back to an 84-64 home win against UMass Lowell on Dec. 2.

Thus far in league play, Colgate has allowed an average of 70 points per game and a -15.5 scoring margin, along with nine assists and 3.8 steals per game, all last in the league. However, they do rank third in league play by holding opponents to just 28.8 percent shooting from three-point range. Colgate (-2.0) ranks one spot higher than Lehigh (-3.5) in PL rebounding margin, with the teams ranking seventh and eighth, re-spectively. The Raiders also rank third in the league in blocked shots, with 3.5 per game, compared to the Mountain Hawks who come in last at 2.3.

Overall this season, junior Summer King ranks fourth in the PL with a .481 field goal percentage. She is also fifth overall with 1.1 blocks per game. King leads the Raiders with 9.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Kateri Stone is next among active players with 6.8 ppg and Nia Ahart averages six points per contest and is shooting 40 percent from the field, including a team-best 38.7 percent from three-point land. Abby Schubiger (4.3 ppg) is coming off a career-best 14 points against Bucknell.

In their last game, the Raiders were tied at 46 with Bucknell late in the third quarter before the Bison ran off a 31-11 run to close the game and win 77-57. Colgate, who owns a league-low -9.0 turnover margin and averages over 20 turnovers per league game, only turned the ball over six times in the game, including just once in the first half.

Colgate will be without the services of sophomore Rachel Thomspon, who went down with a season ending injury against Holy Cross on Dec. 29. Last year as a freshman, she ranked third on the team with 10.2 points. She was the team’s second leading scorer (8.9 ppg) and rebounder (5.3 rpg) this season.

WASHINGTON D.C. – American had three players score at least 20 points to power past Lehigh 82-64 on Sunday afternoon. Carl had a game-high 27 points on 11-of-13 shooting and four three-pointers to lead the Eagles (13-4, 6-0 PL). Sophomore Camryn Buhr led Lehigh (10-7, 4-2 PL) with her fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds on 8-of-13 shooting. Quinci Mann and Gena Grundhoffer scored 11 points apiece, and Hannah Hedstrom added eight and freshman Mary Clougherty scored a career-high seven points. American shot 50 percent from the floor and 63.2 per-cent from beyond the arc to Lehigh’s 35 percent overall and 38.1 percent from long range. American also outrebounded Lehigh 34-32 while converting 18 of their 19 free throw attempts.

“They shot the ball really well and we struggled shut down Carl,” said head coach Sue Troyan. “She had a lot of clean looks at the basket and we didn’t defend her. Give American credit, they don’t give you a lot on the offensive end and you really have to execute to run your stuff well, and I didn’t think we settled for great shots throughout the game.”

American started the game fast and took a 7-0 lead before Buhr hit a free throw. Lehigh missed their first eight shots from the field before Cameryn Benz came away with a steal and found Mann in tran-sition for a three-pointer to make it 9-4 at the media timeout.

Benz drained one from downtown coming out of the timeout to make it 9-7 before the Eagles went on a 7-2 run to take a 16-9 lead. Clougherty sank a late three as Lehigh cut the deficit to 16-12 after one quarter. LU finished the quarter by hitting four of their last six shots and came away with all five of their first half steals in the opening frame.

Lehigh missed its first four shots of the second quarter before Buhr made it 20-14 at the 7:21 mark and Hedstrom made it a six -point game once again with a left-handed layup off the glass just over a minute later. From there, American closed the half on an 18-10 run to hold a 42-26 edge at the break.

“Cam Buhr is so consistent for us right now,” Troyan said. “She’s playing well and just a great com-petitor. Besides her, we struggled to make a lot of shots from the field.

“Mary played well,” Troyan said of Clougherty, a native of nearby Virginia who played in front of a hometown crowd. “I’m glad she had some opportunities here and stepped up and played well for us. I actually thought she did the best job for us when we had her guard Carl at the end and they couldn’t get the ball to her.”

American grew the lead to 19 over the first 4:31 of the second half before Buhr responded with a three. Hedstrom got it back to 13 with a three-point play following a jumper while drawing a foul. The AU lead grew to 17 once more before Benz and Grundhoffer combined for three points over the final two minutes to make it 59-45 entering the fourth.

Mann, Grundhoffer and Hedstrom all hit threes in less than two minutes in the middle of the fourth quarter to get LU back within 12 at 66-54 with 5:36 left, but American had the answer as Katie Marenyi and Carl combined for 17 of the American’s 23 points in the fourth to keep the Mountain Hawks at bay. Marenyi had a layup and a three-pointer to grow the lead to 18 on two separate occasions, and American drained another three to give them a game-high 22 point, 82-60 lead with 1:11 remaining. Buhr and Clougherty each tacked on two points in the final minute for Lehigh.

“Whoever was opened on the perimeter, they knocked it down,” Troyan said. “We’re not going to win too many games giving up 80 points. We have to be better than that.”
