CHAPTER ONE

M.S

The vast sky, pregnant clouds and ruins seated atop various mountainspeaks. Silence remains still and unspoiled. Suddenly, crashing into a ruin -an unknown figure. The fall, certain to slay a human, is nothing morethan a mere inconvenience to this figure that remains to been seen as it iscloaked in dust - arising from the aftermath of the figure's unrefinedentry.The dust clears and the figure is recognizable. Recognizable only in tales

and folklore some parents use to gain attention of children. Attentionwhich would in time spawn vivid imaginations accompanied by fear orexcitement. The figure stands nine feet tall, possesses an even distributionof muscular structure that would make a man in his prime quiver with

fear. With piercing red eyes, horns and a snout, the figure stands aMINOTAUR. It's eyes fixed straight ahead, a battle-axe tightly clenchedin its right hand, it waits for what one could only surmise to be a

formidable opponent.Silence engulfs the atmosphere once more - but for a moment as a voicebelonging to a woman tears through the air."Mae'r saeth y dwyrain" the voice utters.It is at that moment the creature realizes its gaze were fixed at the wrongdirection as an arrow coated in what appears to be red lightpierces it'sback. A mighty roar is heard across the mountain. A roar that suddenly

turns in a groan as the creature staggers, falls on its belly and breathes nomore.The rightful owner of the voice steps into the light. A young red headedmaiden clad in bronze armor. Bow and arrows in her person, she stares ather slain prey without any remorse or expression of a victor.

"As expected of the Red Herald" a masculine voice suddenly contributes."Ridding your foes of life humanely albeit they share no traits norcompassion towards theirscontinues the male guest - still unseen in the

scene.The maiden smirks as she lays her eyes upon her guest. The guest, dressedin a hooded robe is sat on a rock right next to the lifeless foe."Likewise, as expected of you to appearbefore me the moment I completemy task" the maiden replies."At last, litters must be disposed offquips the monk."Do as you wish. However, questions burden me..." adds the maiden."What ails you? As you are aware, not only do I tend to littersbut I amalso tasked with severing your troubling thoughts" the monk adds."From our books and scrolls, the felled beast before us is native to the landsof Greece. So why have I encountered one here?" questions the maiden."Your question holds water. However, evilis everywhere. We at the Hallshave no luxury to linger upon the nature or kind of evil we come across orwhere and when we locate them" answers the monk.

"Our hearts should only beat to the elation of their demisehe continues.There is a long pause from the maiden followed by a smile.

confirmed by our scouts in the region of West Africa

replies the monk."The Loch--""Nay. This is onethat has eluded you in particular" the monk interrupts."You are to leave immediately. TheWhite Clydeis currently birthed atriverAyr. Be sure to board her by midday. Her captain awaits

yourpresence""Africa" utters the maiden as she walks away from the scene."

Would I be able to stretchmy hands there?"

asked the maiden.The monk begins the answer to the question with a nod and concludes withthe words "more than enough. I promise""Like you always do" replies the maiden with a hint of sarcasm."One more thing. In what manner am I to present myself to theindigenes?" she queries."As a missionaryfrom the churchand you bear the name Mae'ri...Mae'ri

replies the monk.And with those words the maiden disappears from the vicinity.The monk stares at the beast."Well, shall we?" he questions the still beast.As the wind howls across the mountains, the monk and beast disappears

from the scene save the arrow that silenced the behemoth...for good.
