The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts is owned and managed by Hotel Leelaventure Limited which was established in 1983 in Mumbai.

On May 17, 2014, Capt. C.P Krishnan Nair, Founder Chairman and Chairman Emeritus of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, whose vision inspired the Group to establish itself as one of the finest Indian luxury hospitality brands, passed away peacefully with his family beside him, at the age of 92

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) awarded him the Global 500 Roll of Honour award in 1999
